MISSY ANN J. DELA PAZ

INTRODUCTION
Religion the state of a religious ,a nun in her 20th year of religion the service and worship of
God or the supernatural , commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance,a personal
set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes ,beliefs ,and practices.

Religion is the set of beliefs, feelings, dogmas and practices that define the relations between
human being and sacred or divity. A given religion is defined by specific elements of a
community of believers: dogmas,sacred books,rites,worship,sacrament,moral
prescription, interdicts, and organization. The majority of religions have developed starting from
a revelation based on the exemplary history of a nation,of a prophet or a wise man who taught
an ideal life:

A religion may be defined with its three great characteristic:

-Believes and religios practices

-The religious feeling i.e. faith

-Unity in a community of those who share the same faith:the Church. It is what differentiates
religion from magic.

The study of disappeared or existing religious shows the universal character of this
phenomenon and a very large variety in the ritual doctrines and practices. One generally
distinguishes the religious called primitive or animists, the Oriental religions
(Hinduism,Buddhism,Shintoism,Confucianism,Taoism..)and the religions monotheists derived
from the Bible(Judaism,Christianity,Islam).Christianity has itself given birth to several religions
or Chritians Churches,Orthdox,Protestant,Evangelic.

BODY
CATHOLIC- The Catholic Church teaches that it was established by Christ as his one Church on
earth. The apostles were the first bishops of the Church.

METHODIST
METHODIST- The Methodist Church was started by Jhon Wesley, who was an Anglican priest
who tried to start a revival in the Anglican Church, but was rejected by many Anglicans. He
never repudiated his Anglicans faith, but many of his followers and subsequent leaders split
from the Anglicans, thus forming Methodism. The Anglican Church split from the Catholic Church
when Henry refused to submit to the authority of the Pope.

CATHOLIC- For a Catholic, there are three authorities that we rely on-sacred scripture, sacred
tradition, and the Magisterium(teaching authority)of the Church. We believe that all three were
instituted by Christ and none are optional.

METHODIST-Believe that final authority on all matters of doctrine is the Bible.

Methodists have two Sacraments-Catholic have seven:

CATHOLIC- Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconcilition, Matrimony, Holy, Orders, Anointing

of the sick.

METHODIST-Baptism, Communion (Lord’s Supper).
