The 2018-2019 mainstage season of Mountain View Theatre is already underway and
going strong. We have numerous exciting opportunities coming up this season. This year our
mainstage season includes The 39 Steps, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Sophie and
the Pirates, and Chicago.
Last October, Mountain View Theatre became Region 6-7A champions with our
production of Peter and the Starcatcher. This was a first for Mountain View High School. We
then traveled to State competition where we placed third (the highest our region has performed in
10 years). This October our season opens with our 2018 one act competition piece The 39 Steps
by Patrick Barlow. This play is based on the Hitchcock spy thriller and similarly named novel.
The 39 Steps follows Richard Hannay as he learns that true heroism lies within. This piece will
be competing at Region 6-7A One Act Competition in the hopes of moving forward to state.
To follow, Mountain View Theatre will present the newly released musical A
Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, the side-splitting tale of Monty Navarro’s rise to wealth
as he murders off each of his relatives. Gentleman’s Guide just finished its first national tour (if
you happened to catch it at the Fox Theatre) and we will be one of the first educational programs
in the US producing this show, and the very first in Georgia. We will also be competing with
this production for the possible honor to perform at the Georgia Thespian Conference for high
school students around Georgia.
In January we will present the Theatre for Young Audiences pirate tale Sophie and the
Pirates, where our heroine Sophie finds herself scooped up by a band of wacky pirates and learns
that the biggest adventure is finding yourself. Last year we began the tradition of performing our
Theatre for Young Audiences productions as school day matinees for Gwinnett elementary and
middle schools. In addition, we will be training and sending student ambassadors out to the
schools as teaching artists to enhance the younger students’ love and appreciation of the arts.
We end the year with the famous murderesses Roxie and Velma in our production of
Chicago. We aim to please, with jazz, outstanding dance numbers, and lots of razzle dazzle.
Outside of our productions we have many other exciting programs, we have been
awarded the opportunity to start or Circus Arts/Cirque program at Mountain View High School.
This year the after-school program has now become a class incorporated into the curriculum. We
will have our inaugural Cirque show in March to showcase these students. Most importantly we
have a benevolence goal to send two thespian honor society members, who could not usually
afford it to the annual Georgia Thespian Conference.
Georgia Thespians is an organization for high school and middle school students
dedicated to excellence in theatre arts. It is a chapter of the Educational Theatre Association.
Their annual conference, commonly referred to as ThesCon, takes place in February in
Columbus, GA. This conference features numerous productions presented by high schools from
throughout the state plus a variety of workshops led by theatre professionals from around the
country. Students will also perform and view individual performance and tech events, audition
for scholarships, talk to college representatives from around the country, shop with commercial
vendors selling theatre merchandise, and spend with over 5,000 other Georgia Thespians.
With so many amazing programs and opportunities things going on, we need your help.

Program.
You can do so much to support these young men and women by becoming a sponsor for
this year’s season as we hope to reach even more people. I am sure that you will be able to see
the benefits your donation will provide to our students and to our program each time we perform

support but no matter what you’re able to do, rest assured it will benefit everyone who
participates in the Mountain View Theatre Program. Whatever level you are able to donate,
remember that you will be able to use it as a tax deduction but more importantly, you will be
helping the outstanding young men and women of the Mountain View High Theatre Program.
