and member of the House.

First of all, I’d like to say thanks to Allah Swt. For His blessing and merciful, we
can be here without any obstacles.
Also, thanks for time which given to me as first speaker from positive team. Let
me introduce my self and my teammate. I’m Sekar Dirgantari Hayuningtyas as
first speaker; I will deliver arguments from health perspective, Ayu Fatimah
Cahyaningtyas as second speaker, who wil deliver argument from social
perspective and the last, Iddo Fadhlil Ratmana as third speaker who will deliver
argument from military perspective.

Well, audiences...
Our motion today is THBT Modern technology is a foe than a friend.
From Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary the definitions are:

| Technology is some innovation which made by human to make their works
easier to realize their life.
| Foe is something which make worst influence and make harm.
| Friends is a thing which is very helpful for human life (from Oxford Advanced
Learner’s Dictionary)

Now, we only talked about modern technology in this case genetics
engineering for human is a foe than a friend.
Genetics engineering is one of modern technology. The latest issue said that
genetics engineering will applied for human being.
Genetics engineering begins at 1970. Genetics engineering are technique for
modifying, copying and recombining gene of organism.

And now, let me deliver my arguments from health perspective:

Genetics engineering has many types. And I will explain one of them. Cloning.
1. Uncertainty and Unsafe Result.
Dolly the Lamb, icon of cloning as we know, need many trials to get good
result. Project of Dolly had destroyed many embryos before desired result
achieved. Dolly’s project need 277 reconstructed eggs from 40 donors and
Dolly is the singel successful outcome.
Clone pregnancy commonly weak, is that many baby clone die soon after birth.

2. Inheriting Disease.
Cloning create a copy of its predecessor. This includes genetics abnormalities
and disease. Cloning also has high risk of gene mutations, somatic mutations,
and improper imprinting.
If the mother had genetics abnormalities or disease, the clone will also have it.

From that explanation, we can conclude that genetics engineering are have
uncertainty and unsafe results, and also have high risk of gene mutations, and
inheriting abnormalities and also disease. That is very dangerous for health,
moreover if clone as one of genetics engineering applied to human being.
So, I stressed again that the motion THBT Technology modern in this case
genetics engineering is a foe than a friends.

Motion : This house would prohibiting student from
bringing their own vehicle to school
About that point of view form law, in this I will limit discussion argument about that
for student primary student, junior high school dan senior school. To prohibit
vehicle to school during hours running. Because very much traffic accident and
speeding on the highway, by student is that caused of their age are still unstable
and difficult to control emotions often this to happen. Basic prohibition law was
very clear.

In accordance with Law 22/2009 on Traffic and Transportation, children under the
age of 17 years have not been allowed to have a driving license (SIM). One reason is
because emotional child under 17 years old is still unstable. Whereas, when a
person riding a motorcycle on the road are required to take decisions quickly and
accurately. For example, when someone is at a crossroads, suddenly came a large
truck, if the person is not fast enough to take the decision he did, then he felt
panic, then the accident at that place was not inevitable.
So in solution the police colaboration with edication institution to student on
matter relating to traffic are are areness and knowledge to driving age
requirement in accordan the with article 81 paragraph 1 and 2, to get a driver’s
license, each driver must meet the age recruitment, administrative, healt and pass
exam for SIM A, C and D. the owner of the SIM must be aged a minimum of 17 years,
where B1 dan B2 a least 20 years old at least 21 years and urge student to bring
bike.

According to AKBP Sabilul Alif to detik.com on Tuesday ( 10/09/2013 ), there are

four factors which make minors is strictly forbidden to use a motor vehicle :

1. Physical

A vehicle, intentionally designed for adults, not children. So, if a child driving a
motor vehicle, it is not appropriate

2. Cognitive or way of thinking and looking at

Driving a motor vehicle is not just a straight course, but also see the slope,
derivative, uneven roads, as well as passing and interacting with other vehicles.
Cognitive children usually less so do not make decisions fast when compared with
adults. Though dynamic and fast moving roads .

3. Emotion

Children are usually more labile emotions and hooked faster than the emotions
are more stable adults.

4. Social

The social example is parents who buy their children cars, but his son was not

CORRUPTION

Corruption in Indonesia is growing systematically. For many people, corruption is no longer as a

violation of law, but it is just a custom. In Indonesia, corruption happens as if it is a normal thing to do,
especially among officials. Officials seem to have no shame to do disservice to this country. This
creates a question, what the causes of corruption in Indonesia are. At least there are eight causes of
corruption that happens in Indonesia.

First, state administration system is erroneously. As new developed country, the development priorities
must be in education. But for decades, started from old order era, the new order era, until reformation
era, the development only focused on the economic field. Whereas, every country that is newly
independent, is still limited in having human resources, money, management, and technology. So, as a
consequence, all of those things are imported from abroad which in turn it produces the cause of
corruption.

Second, civil servants’ compensation is low. Newly independent countries do not have enough money
to pay higher compensation to employees. Moreover Indonesia, which prioritizes economic and cultural
field, makes a pattern of consumerism culturally and physically, so that 90 percent of civil servants do
corruption.

Third, officials are greedy. Consumerism lifestyle, was born by the development system, encourages
officials to be rich instantly. This causes the attitude of greed where officials abuse the authority and his
position, as doing mark up to the development projects.

Fourth, Law Enforcement does not run well. Officials that are greedy and civil servants who do
corruption because of the insufficient salary, do not run law enforcement well. Besides, in government
agencies and organizations community, everything that involves in the law enforcement is measured by
money.

Fifth, the punishment that is lightly against the corruptor. The law enforcement does not work properly,
where law enforcement officials can be paid. Thus, the punishment for the corruptor is very light and it
does not cause a deterrent effect.

Sixth, the supervision is not effective. In a modern system of management, there is always the
instrument called internal control which the nature is in build in every unit of work task. So that a little
deviation will be detected earlier and automatically repaired. But, internal control which exists in every
unit no longer went properly because the officer or employee who relates to the business, can do the
act of corruption.

Seventh, there is no exemplary leader. In 1997, the state of the Indonesian economy is slightly better
than Thailand. But, the leader of Thailand gave an example to its people in a pattern of simple life.
Thus, moral support and material were born from the public and employers. In short time, Thailand got
economic recovery. In Indonesia, there was no leader that can be an example so that the national and
state life is nearly in ravine destruction.

Eighth, corruption in Indonesia is not only centred on state officials recently but already it extends to the
community. This can be exemplified by the handling of the ID card, driver’s licence, vehicles
registration, or when applying for work. This is a reflection of the community actions which is carried out
by political officials.

Based on those arguments that show us the causes of corruption, we have to do preventive actions
against corruption. We should build legal regime, the prevention form all elements that can provide the
illumination law and information that are held to the government, public services, providers of goods n
services, and private parties. Say no to corruption and let us fight against it.

PRO AND CONS GOVERNMENT REGULATION (PP) NO. 61 ABOUT
ABORTION
Abortion is an attempt which is made to terminate the pregnancy before 20 weeks which cause the
death of fetus. It is currently done by people, especially among young women. They have a variety of
reasons for doing this such as health, protection and others. However, some people see abortion as a
criminal act. The discourse about abortion always causes disagreement in the community which is
never ended. Even the government has issued Government Regulation (PP) No. 61 on the case
reproductive health. These new regulation will legalize abortion. Many people support the new rules but
not least also strongly oppose this legislation. So, how is the headway of the topic of abortion so far?
The following are the pros and cons of abortion.

If it is considering from those who support the legalization of abortion, they strongly agree with this
action by a variety of reasons. The first reason is to save woman because of health factors. They argue
that banning abortion is not protecting women but it will result so many deaths of women due to unsafe
abortion. By legalizing abortion, they no longer have an abortion in places or clinic that is not safe.
There will be appeared abortion practices with has good medical standard and safe. Another reason is
to protect pregnant mothers which endanger their lives so that requires them to abort their babies.

The second reason is to save women from sexual violence such as rape and others. Women who are
pregnant because of rape definitely do not want the pregnancy. If the pregnancy is occurred, it will lead
to cases of baby neglecting or even murder of baby. Therefore, those who agree in legalizing abortion
assume that it will protect the rights of women and prevent crime for the baby later.

The reasons above looked logical however, not a few of people against the government regulation
which legalize abortion. There are so many reasons why the legalization of abortion should be stopped.
The first factor is from religious factor. Abortion is prohibited because it is an act of murder. By aborting
their pregnancy, it means they kill their own baby. As we know that murder is a very big sin for every
religion in Indonesia. Therefore, the Government Regulation (PP) no. 61 should be reconsidered.

Moreover, the legalization of abortion would be misused for those who love free sex. They are no longer
afraid do free sex because they will feel safe, if pregnancy is occurred. It is what public are afraid of
now. As a result the legalization of abortion is going to demoralize the nation values because of free
sex.

Based on the brief discussion above, government regulation (PP) no. 61 which has been issued raises
the pros and cons in the community. Many people agree with this regulation but many people are also
opposed this regulation. As an eastern nation that has a moral, government should consider stopping
this regulation because it is not suitable with our nation’s moral.

PROS AND CONS OF FACEBOOK

Facebook is the largest social networking site today. Founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. At
the beginning, the site was a social network only for students in Harvard College. Then two months
later, Facebook membership began to spread more widely to other colleges in the Boston area. Some
colleges are already using Facebook at the time was Boston University, MIT, and Tufts.

Currently, Mark Zukeberg creation has emerged as a social networking site at the greatest use
throughout the world. It is accessed by billions of people every day and is used for various purposes.
This social networking is considered good for education, but others consider it bad.

It is good for educating children in Indonesia because it can be a means or medium for conveying
learning in various fields. A teacher who has a Facebook enabled them to disseminate educational
information that is useful to the students. Then, a chat facility provided by Facebook is also becoming
an important tool for students to chat in a more comfortable to ask and answer questions about
homework, and other educational issues. This social media, helps communication so it can be done
quickly and easily.

A teacher can also use Facebook. The teachers can be more familiar with their students because the
interaction can be easily done through Facebook whenever and wherever they are. It is certainly more
profitable for the learning process which is also determined by how well the interaction and
communication between teachers and their students. When communications are good, then the study is
believed to be much more successful than who make themselves to be exclusive from the students’
area. Aside from being a means of communication between students to students and students to
teachers, this site is also a medium for writers that exist around the world to deliver their educational
materials for each child. We currently see many articles and fan page which are quite instructive, and
can then be used as learning material for students who become the users of Facebook. One useful fan
page is the Easy Way to Learn English, where the owner of the fan page regularly shares the learning
materials of English.

Meanwhile, Facebook can turn into a bad media because at this time, many found the sharing of the
content that should not be viewed by children. Many people have poor mental and then distribute
content that does not educate the Facebook users which mostly are teenagers and children.
Furthermore, this social media site does not have a filter to content. So the effect is that many students
who copy or imitate the bad behavior that acquired via Facebook. In addition to be a medium of
information that is not good, Facebook is also making the students are oblivious to their daily
obligations. This is a social networking site that has the most complete information and entertainment.
One of entertainment that wastes the time of a student is gaming. There are a variety of games on
Facebook and online-based. In fact, there are even more devastating damage caused by the Facebook
game where students buy gaming products which of course spend much money of their parents.

An issue of course has pros and cons. In response to Facebook, we have to use this site as wise as
possible. Because Facebook is a site that does not have a filter against bad content, then we should
use it as best as possible by avoiding the various bad content. Then, as parents and teachers, we must
always keep an eye on our children, so they can avoid the dangers of this biggest social media site in
the world.

Pros and Cons of Working at Night

Work is an activity done consciously to earn income used to pay the cost of daily life as well as saving
money for future. Working is very important now. There are lots of people compete to get any job. Even,
they no longer have exact working system or hours. Takes for example there is a work during the day,
but many of workers also work at night nowadays. Everybody seems enjoying working in the daylight.
However, working performed at night raises a lot of pros and cons in the community.

For some people, working at night is not a problem at all because there are some benefits that can be
obtained. One of them is, it can increase productivity. It is because when they work at night; there will
be little even no interference that could interrupt their work, so those night workers will be focused in
completing their work.

In addition, it makes the job finished more quickly. By working at night, the brain will focus on the work.
As a result, the job will be finished faster because of the absence of interference that can hinder their
work. Moreover, the atmosphere of the night which is peaceful and away from the noise makes the
mind becomes calm, so no wonder a lot of thought or new innovations emerge in the night.

However, not everyone agrees with night system. Those who do not agree this bad habit notice that it
can cause so many disadvantages for health. One of them is, it disturbs sleep schedule. Indeed, night
time is used for sleep and rest, so when it is used to work, then the next day the body will become weak
and be sleepy in all time.

Besides that, it also results some changes in the body’s metabolism, for example the decreasing of
leptin hormone. This hormone is a substance that serves to control weight, blood sugar, and insulin in
the body. As a result, the body will be getting in trouble, if there is lack of this hormone. Consequently,
the body will become increasingly thin.

Moreover, it may increase the risk of depression. Various studies have revealed that it adversely
affected the mental health of human beings, namely depression. Furthermore, they found that working
at night may increase the risk of mood swings and unstable person’s condition, so they are more easily
getting stressed.

Even worse, this activity can lead to cancer. In the night, the body will produce melatonin hormone,
which is produced while sleeping, so if the body is not rested, then the hormones will not be produced.
As a result, there is a hormonal imbalance in the body that would trigger cancer.

Although working at night has its advantages, however there are also losses which are triggered by this
bad habit. Therefore it is better to maintain a healthy body because even though we have a lot of
money but our body is not healthy, then it does not mean at all.

Compromise is Necessary
Compromise is a deal with the situation. Many people have an experience in facing situation. One
of the situations is making an important decision. There are so many ways to make some important
decisions. Compromise is one of the ways to make some important decisions. By compromising
people can make the best important decision wisely. In many situations, compromise is important.

When people want to buy some gadgets, there are some decisions which they have to consider As
the example people who want to buy a mobile. The first one is the price. People will consider the
price of the mobile which they will buy. They probably think that the price of the mobile is not
guarantee the quality of the mobile. The second one is the features of the mobile. Usually some
people who want to buy a mobile will consider the mobile has many features or not. Because they
want their mobile has many sophisticated features like wifi, and 3G. Taking some decisions in
buying a mobile will make people satisfy with the mobile which they want.

When people want to marry with someone there are some decisions which they have to consider.
Because there are so many couples cannot keep their relationship so that they divorce. Absolutely
they have to compromise their decision with their family to have the harmonic relationship. Usually
people want their couple to be suitable with them. They will determine the criteria which they want.
One of the criteria which has really to be considered is religion. There are so many factors of marry
couple which have different religion. In Indonesia there is a new rule. The rule is the couple who
want to marry but they have different religion is cannot marry legally by the law in Indonesia. So
they have to go to the other country which can legal that marry. The second one is culture. There are
some cultures in Indonesia who forbid marry with people who have different culture. One of them
is Lampungese. There are some cultures in Lampung that forbid their first children to marry with
people who are not lampungnese. The third one is family background. Many parents absolutely
want their children have a couple which come from good family. There are some people who find
their right couple but their family come from corruptor family so their parents do not allow their
children marry with that couple.

When people want buy a house there are some important decision which they have to be
considered. The first one is the location of the house. People who want to buy a house want to
compromise if the location of their house is far from their work place. It can waste much time and
much money if the place is not far from their home, they can save their time and money. The second
one is the interior of the house. They will compromise how many bedrooms which the house has.
Because they want to adjust the bedroom and the number of family member. The third one is the
design of the house. People also will compromise the design of the house, because people not only
want their house comfortable for living but also comfortable for seeing. They also want their house
has an artistic value.

When people want apply for a job there are some important decision which they have to be
considered. The first one is the place of the job. People who want to apply for a job want to
compromise if the place of their job is so far from their home. It can waste much time and much
money. If the place is not far from their home, they can save their time and money. The second one
is the salary of their job. Usually people want their salary to be appropriate with their daily needs.
Because if their salary is not appropriate with their salary they cannot fulfill their daily needs
maximally. The third one is chance of career. If people consider their career in the future they have
to find the job who can develop their career. They can apply as the bank manager. So that if they
work well and maximally they can become bank branch manager.

Video Games

Nowadays, the video games industry is developing rapidly. It becomes a multi-

billion dollar industry. Video games have become an important part not only in
the children’ life, but also in the adults’ life. Nevertheless, there is an argument
whether video games bring good or bad influences on children.

People who have a pro argument claim that video games give a lot of benefits,
playing video games is a good way to kill children’s boredom. It can refresh the
children’s mind after a tiring school day. Moreover, they also argue that video
games can trigger children to be more creative because the games provide
challenging ways to win. In other words, they believe that the video games can
actually sharpen a human’s brain.

Conversely, some people believe that video games make children lazy. They
argue that playing video games is addictive. As a consequence, most of the
children prefer playing video games to studying. These children find it hard to
concentrate on their study because they always think about how to spend more
time playing video games. In fact, there are also some children who skip their
extracurricular lessons, just because they want to play video games. In addition,
most of the video games often expose too much violence. Two years ago in the
USA, for example, a student shot his teacher and some of his friends.
Newspapers said that the boy was deeply influenced by the actions in the video
games he used to play with.

It is obvious that video games have more disadvantages than advantages.

Therefore, parents should be very careful in selecting the appropriate games for
their children.

Convenience or Care?

When something issued by someone, we say it has been consumed. We as consumers use
many things, both natural and processed. We consume more of the Earth’s resources
than other animals do and, as a result, we cause problems for the environment.
Like all animals, we need clean air and water, food and shelter for survival. Unlike other
animals, however, we have certain “want”. These are items that are not necessary for
our survival, but that we want because they make our lives easier or more enjoyable.
Environments claims that a great deal of waste is created by both the production and
the consumption of these items or product. Disposable products, such a pens, take away
food containers, plates, shavers and cutlery, are made using the Earth’s resources.
When these products are thrown away, the resources are lost.

Another example of waste is the unnecessary packaging on many products. The material
is often not recycled and used again.
Throwing thing away also increases pollution. The amount of disposable plastic litter
that ends up in waterways is a serious problem. When this waste reaches the oceans, it
can kill marine life.
Industrialist counter these arguments with their own point of view. They claim that
consumer’s expect to be able to purchase food which is attractively presented,
prepackaged to extent its life and easy to store. In a busy society, convenience is a
priority. Products which make life easier, era in demand. Industrialist argue that they
cater to this perceived need.
Packaging is also big business and provides jobs for many people who might otherwise be
unemployed and a burden to society.
Environmentalist declare that for thousands of year, people survived perfectly well
with re-usable products. However, people of the twenty-first century have become used
to wing in a ‘thrown-away’ society. It is up to each one of us to dispose of waste
products carefully, recycle as much as possible and to reduce the stress on our
environment. Think when buying pre-packaged goods and consider whether the same
products can be bought without the extra wrappings. Let’s make the best of what we
have.

Being a Team Worker Vs. Be Brilliantly Creative Person

Today, the development of work in any sector is increasing rapidly. Almost all sectors such
as industrial, medical, food, and many more require appropriate, fast, and good quality results. In
this sector of work there are also several ways to accomplish the task well. Some people decided to
work alone, and others decided to work together. Some people say thatbeing a team worker is more
important than to be brilliantly creative person.

Among those who agreed, working together brought more benefits to the work. First, we
will get a very good idea. Why? The work which is done together will certainly involve some
people into it. Some of these people will have different ideas to produce better results. If people are
willing to value their opinions well, provide useful solutions and work well, then this collaboration
can be said to be successful. The success of this collaboration has led to a very good idea because it
combines several ideas that can be used.

Second, the result of a good idea will produce good efficiency benefits. Some people will
work in accordance with their respective expertise in various projects so the work will
finish faster. The people who work together will not feel too tired because everyone works to help
each other. Usually, people who work together will reduce the cost of expenditure to a minimum but
with maximum results. All three have shown efficiency in terms of time, effort, and cost.

Third, there is a guarantee of quality, quantity, and continuity for the people working
together. Efficient work in many ways, such as in terms of time, effort, and cost will make it
possible to create a product in large quantities. Every person who focuses on working on each part
with the specific then it will produce results with good quality. The risk received if there is any error
can be accepted by all parties. If quality and quantity have materialized, it will make continuity
work. These benefits can only be obtained by people who can cooperate well.

On the other hand, people who disagree that cooperating better than be a creative person
show several reasons. First, the existence of "Groupthink" in cooperation. People tend to choose to
work alone because usually, ideas used in teams are ideas that tend to be the majority. In fact, the
idea that the majority is not necessarily better than the idea of a minority. Also there are still people
who are less inclined to teamwork, making them just resigned to the decision taken. This is called
grouphtink.

Second, the losses gained from teamwork are the presence of people who take positions as
"free riders". Free riders is a situation where some people only rely on others in the group. People
who work maximally may be only one or two people in a group and the rest do not work. However,
they still get the same reciprocity or reward with people who have worked optimally. This is

certainly very detrimental to people who have worked hard and make them think that it is better to
work alone because they are not sincere.

Third, there are difficult decisions and there are still many hidden intentions of members of
teamwork. Because of this teamwork involving many people, it will be a lot of ideas also gained.
However, if people do not have teamwork, it will be difficult to make a decision by considering all
the possibilities. As a result, the decisions will be less than the maximum and become protracted.
Caused by many members too, not infrequently some members have other intentions in following
the teamwork whose goals are not in line with the goals of the team.

In conclusion, working together does bring more benefits than working alone. However,
many things must be considered such as the type of work to be done, the nature of different people,
the ability to accept the opinions of others, and much more. We must be selective in choosing it all
in order to produce maximum results. However, if these things are not sufficient, then self-
employment is the best option. Instead of working together but not cooperating, it is better to work
alone and produce better work results.

Should Children be Allowed to Use Computers and the Internet?

The computer is a useful machine and nowadays it is important to many people. Children
especially love to use the computer and they are spending more and more time on it. They get
many benefits from the computer but it can also be dangerous for them.

On one hand, children learn a lot of things from computers and the Internet. They learn about
people in different countries, they play games that help them learn to read and write and they get
information for school projects. They can read stories on the computer and save information. The
Internet connects them to other people. When a child is bored he can go on the computer.
Computers make children smart.

On the other hand, the computer can have a negative effect on children. They may see bad things,
like videos and chat rooms that are meant for older people. This can cause the children to have
bad behaviour and to hate school. It takes up a lot of free-time and it keeps them from homework
and they no longer want to pray and read the Quran and sit with their families. Also, sitting at the
computer for a long time is harmful to the eyes, making them red and harming the sight.

In conclusion, there are both good and bad things about computers and the Internet. Parents
should take good care when their children are using the Internet. They should supervise their
children to make sure they do not go to bad web sites. I think it is good if children use it for a short
time, so parents should not let the children sit at the computer for too long. They should teach
their children to use the computer in a good way. I advise people to use computers well so that

Internet game or game online is popular for students. It can refresh our mind from
the busy school day. Do you know the impact of the game online?
In fact, game online has many positive sides. It can make students be spared from

students because to play the game, we need to think desperately hard.
On the other hand, internet game can make students of being lazy to study because
