Show letters of the alphabet then make the sound, let your child imitate you. Associate with things around you. Ex. Show letter A – what is the sound of this? Then give examples of things around you like a a apple b b ball c c cat.
2. Blending of two letters.
After your child mastered the alphabet sounds, blend the two letters. Ex. bl – blocks, br – brush (always associate with pictures)
3. Teach the Word Families (Seus Word Family)
Expose with words that end the same. Ex. ab – cab, dab, fab; ad – bad, cad, dad
4. Teach the CVC words
CVC means consonant, vowel, consonant Ex. bed, boy, cat, dad
5. Teach the Dolch Basic Sight Words
Teach this by reading level.
When your child mastered these steps it would be easier for him/her to blend 4 and more letter words. Remember, always associate with pictures.
