Give the meaning of the term force.

Homogeneous-particles mixed evenly throughout solvent

hederogeneous- mixture where the substance doesnt dissolve properly

What 3 changes may take place when a force acts on an object?

What is contact force? Give an example.

Name three non contact forces.

Sublimation- solid to gas

What is a force field?

Draw magnetic fields around bar magnets.

What do we mean by a magnetic material?

List some magnetic materials.
How are electromagnets useful?
It can be turned on and off

Compare a magnetic and a magnetic force field

What is the unit for force?

What can an unbalanced force cause if an object is stationary

Acceleration and direction

What do balanced forces cause if an object is moving?

It would cause no movement

What is friction?
A resistant force that occurs when two objects contact, opposes motion

Give an example where it is desirable to reduce frictional forces.

When racing cars
How can friction be reduced?
Less surface area to contact, polish

Why can frictional force be essential?

Car brakes,

What is matter?

In order to help us understand matter we use a model. What is the name of this model?

Discuss one benefit and one limitation in using models.

Using the particle model of matter describe what the particles are doing in a solid.

sun- celestial body that creates its own light

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- liquid.
\------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ gas.
What do we mean by condensation?

What do we mean by evaporation?

What do we mean by sublimation?

Ice melts. Name the change of state involved.

Is a change of state a physical or chemical change?

Give an example that solids are expanded when heated.

Give an example to show that liquids expand when heated

Give examples of expansion and contraction.

What is a bimetallic strip? A bimetallic strip consists of two different materials with different
expansion coefficients that are bonded together. For example, for brass and steel. When this
bimetallic strip is heated, the brass expands more than the steel and the strip curves with the
brass on the outside. If the strip is cooled, it curves with the steel on the outside. Bimetallic
strips are used as switches in thermostats.

All things are made of cells.

Cells are the smallest unit of life.

Hyphae-
Both animal and plant cells have a nucleus, chloroplast, vacuole, cytoplasm, call membrane and
cell wall.
An area which an object is experiencing force- force field
