The
purpose
of
this
class
is
to
introduce
and
study
important
tuba
solo
repertoire,
orchestra
and
band

audition
excerpts
and
etude
material,
and
to
learn
approaches
for
improving
and
mastering
the

performance
of
the
assigned
material
and
other
similar
pieces.
This
class
augments
the
individualized

instruction
of
the
tuba
which
takes
place
in
the
Major
Studio
course.
In
this
class:


• The
student
will
be
assigned
a
piece
to
study
and
prepare
for
each
class.
In
preparation
for
the

class,
the
student
will
listen
to
recordings,
study
the
complete
score,
contemplate
varied
stylistic

performance
options,
and
practice
the
performance
of
the
selection.

• The
student
will
be
prepared
to
perform
the
assigned
selection
in
the
class,
in
front
of
the

instructor
and
other
students.

• The
student
will
receive
comments
on
his
or
her
performance
from
the
instructor
and
other

students.

• The
student
will
listen
attentively
to
the
performances
of
the
other
students
in
the
class,
and

will
be
prepared
to
give
comments
on
the
performances
when
asked.

• The
student
will
learn
about
the
physical
and
technical
approaches
which
are
required
for
the

highest
level
of
performance
of
the
repertoire
studied.


• The
student
will
learn
about
the
musical
and
stylistic
options
which
can
be
employed
to
most

effectively
present
the
repertoire
studied.

• The
student
will
learn
about
the
mental
approaches
to
playing
which
result
in
consistently

compelling
performances.
