Delta connections:

Induction motor usually operated in both connection star & delta so we

need to check out what the performance would be if delta connected IM fed
from single phase supply, we will use four capacitors to illustrate our
connection capacitor values is defined in the table below
C1 41
C2 81
C3 121
C4 161

Rated Line current =3.7A, Supply voltage =220V,

Full load speed =1415rpm, And motor is 2HP
First relation we had is a well known relation which is torque _speed one as
shown in Figure 4.2.1, as shown in fig. full load point changes every time we
use different capacitor and peak point changes as well too
Figure 4.2.1 variation between torque and speed at different capacitor
values
We should also notice that C3 value make a backward component cause
aback ward torque .

C3 achieve highest maximum torque of all values and highest point of full
load speed also ,We should notice that our capacitor values is greater than its
values with star connection .
Next fig will illustrate motor currents in each phase we got that phase b is
the most similar to supply current is with speed and at full load speed three
phases not dry the same current but it is safe in three as it dose not exceeded
the rated current
at starting phase a dried highest starting current of three at all capacitor
values
Figure 4.2.2 motor currents with speed at different capacitor values

Figure 4.2.3 motor positive and negative voltages at each phase relation
with speed
As shown in Figure 4.2.3 C3 achieve best positive back ward component is
the lower one of each capacitor value so the proper value achieve best soft and
neat operation without noise is this value.

Figure 4.2.4 relation between output power with positive and negative
power
Figure 4.2.5 relation between input power with positive and negative power
As negative voltage was minimum at C3 value positive power would be at its
peak with the same capacitor C3 as shown in Figure 4.2.4 & Figure 4.2.5
The negative power at this value would be minimum also so our best choice
to handle this case remain C3
Figure 4.2.6 relation between losses in three phases with speed
As previously shown in Figure 4.2.2 that phase a dried highest starting
current of all phases that is clearly showed up in Figure 4.2.6 that phase a
has highest losses at starting and steady state compared to other two phases.
In phase b & c capacitor values achieve best and worst losses is completely
conflicted.
Fig 4.2.7 relation between total losses and speed

Figure 4.2.8 relation between efficiency and speed

Figure 4.2.9 relation between unbalance voltage ratio and speed

Maximum efficiency enhanced when we used C3 capacitor with another
explanation this value achieved minimum UVR% as shown in Figure 4.2.8
& Figure 4.2.9

Figure 4.2.10 relation between positive and negative voltages with speed
Figure 4.2.11 relation between motor toque with speed
From all this we conclude that:
1. C1 enhance we highest torque with suitable full load point
2. C3 we enhance best efficiency and minimum unbalance voltage and
losses
3. C2 not preferred to be used
