UBOD FALLS

ANZAP FALLS

If the words “grueling” and “challenging” sound enticing, then choosing to hike to the Asean-New Zealand Forestation Project Waterfalls
should be on top of your list. Famously known as the ANZAP Twin Falls, the 200 feet (61 meter) high haven is the pot of gold after a six-
hour trek. Note that two hours of the trek involves semi-steep ascents. This is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Hikers go through two legs of trekking before reaching the ANZAP Falls. Leg one begins at Barangay Nambalan, Mayantoc in Tarlac
and ends in the campsite that leads to the falls. Barangay Nambalan is 44 kilometers (27 miles) from Tarlac City and it takes around
one and a half hours to reach here, by private vehicle. Once there, at the jump-off point, the hike begins. What comes next is four hours
of nature-loving and sight-seeing until the campsite is reached. For first-timers, camping out is highly recommended. Having that sense
of escape from the busyness of life, by spending the night under the stars, is going to be one surreal experience. As the morning
comes, leg two can begin. This next phase takes around two hours. It even gets more exciting to know that the hike leads to a bamboo
forest.

After the grueling hike, ANZAP Waterfalls is a sight to behold. The misty and serene falls are well worth the climb, for sure. Once there,
going for a swim or just relaxing in the scenery are some of the most enjoyable things to do and give an irreplaceable feeling.

Baranggay Sapang Uwak, Porac, Pampanga, Porac, Luzon

Miyamit Falls is perhaps Pampanga’s most popular natural wonder, as it has been used several times for extreme sports and ultra-
marathons. Located at Sapang Uwak in Porac, the hundred-feet Miyamit Falls is known for its strong water surges and rock formations.
The water is clean, potable and cool, views are enchantingly relaxing and scenic. Access to Miyamit Falls is via a long trek, and
requires a signed waiver from the Porac Municipal Hall.

We first went to the Municipality of Porac, Pampanga to secure waiver and permits. This is very important as they don’t allow tourist
now a days to enter Sapang-Uwak without your waivers presented to the guards. Two checkpoints await for those who come to see the
falls. This is partly because of the SUV that bypassed the municipality and the baranggay of Sapang-Uwak, even avoiding to get a local
tour guide, which fell down the cliff afterwards. But frankly, getting these documents hadn’t been easy for us.

The Trek
We set off at around 9 in the morning and reached past 1 pm. The trek was not easy, it was quite a long journey specially for some of
us since some were first-timers yet walked a long trail. But the good thing is that not even one of us surrendered.

At the Falls

Since it is already summer, Miyamit did not show herself as to how I first saw her in the picture. Our tour guide said it is best to see the
falls on rainy days because the rush of the water is more intense but the trail then would be muddy and therefore can be quite
dangerous for some.

The water is clean and can be drunk. It is also very cold. Take a free massage from the downpour to your back relieving all the stress
you get from the trek. You will surely forget all your troubles right after the dip, truly worth the climb passing ten consecutive mountains!

MT. PINATUBO TWIN FALLS

After almost 9 hours of what seemed to be an unending lahar trek during our Mt. Pinatubo delta 5 climb, we reached a cascading
waterfalls. The base is a mini pond with a mini falls and as we ascended, another mini-falls. Then finally the upper tier is the beautiful
main waterfalls. Looking at this different panorama has brought relief and merits of the trek that we did. It also inspired us to endure the
challenges ahead and to haunt for more. This sight also gave courage that the summit trek the next day awaits another beauty and
wonder. I cannot search online the name of the said waterfalls so I called it Mt. Pinatubo Twin Falls. The view coupled with the
cleanliness and tranquility of the place was really a WOW... Truly unspoiled, truly an Eden hidden beneath the walls of Pinatubo.

Until June 1991, Mount Pinatubo rose 1,745 meters above sea level but only about 600 meters above a gently-sloping apron and only
200 meters above nearby mountains that largely obscured Mount Pinatubo from view. The surrounding mountains are older volcanic
centers and relics of an ancestral Mount Pinatubo ... The gently-sloping apron consists of thick pyroclastic-flow and lahar (volcanic
mudflow) deposits.

After a long, arduous trek through the Delta 5 trail going to the volcano, the adventurer will be treated to the wondrous view of the Mt.
Pinatubo Twin Falls that falls through the crevice between steep walls. The waters cascade quietly in two levels, hence the name.
The main fall descend to a lower rocky tier, where the water flows and collects into a pool., set amidst an awe-inspiring scenery. The
twin falls could be accessed through Porac, and requires a 4x4 vehicle to reach. Those with more strength and stamina can opt for a 9-
hour trek.
SAPANG ANGKA FALLS

The Sapang Angka Falls got its name from the jackfruit (angka) that once abound in the place before Pinatubo wiped them out. Going
to Sapang Angka involves crossing many treacherous river trails via the Delta 5 route from sitio Pidpid. On a hassle-free day, it can be
reached after an hour and a half of trekking from the Delta 5 trail. The area around the Sapang Angka Falls is small, but the atmosphere
is serenely beautiful and relaxing.
