A GREAT CHURCH THAT I HAVE ENTERED

INTRODUCTION

Religion is the set of beliefs, feelings, dogmas and practices that define the relations between

human being and sacred or divinity. A given religion is defined by specific elements of a

community of believers: dogmas, sacred books, rites, worship, sacrament, moral prescription,

interdicts and organization. The majority of religions have developed starting from a revelation

based on the exemplary history of a nation, of a prophet or a wise man who taught an ideal of

life.

Religion is a fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a group of

people. These set of beliefs concern the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, and involve

devotional and ritual observances. They also often contain a moral code governing the conduct

of human affairs.

Ever since the world began, man has demonstrated a natural inclination towards faith and

worship of anything he considered superior/difficult to understand. His religion consisted of

trying to appease and get favors from the supreme being he feared. This resulted in performing

rituals (some of them barbaric) and keeping traditions or laws to earn goodness and/or

everlasting life.

Christianity has always stressed a personal relationship with God as the touchstone of

religion. When God created Adam and Eve, He walked with them in the Garden of Eden, in the

cool of the day, and enjoyed their fellowship. Religion was, and still is, a close, personal, and

satisfying relationship with the creator God.

BODY

Catholics and Methodists

The many differences between Catholics and Methodists can be summed up into the

influence of the church and its hierarchy and the role of the Bible. Both religions are Christian.

The Methodist religion is a sect of Protestantism.

In general, Catholicism places a lot more power in the authority of the church than

Protestantism. The Catholic Church as a complex hierarchy with leaders who are appointed from

within. Protestants elect their officials in democratic fashion. Catholicism also emphasizes the

importance of the role rituals play in salvation, whereas Protestants believe that salvation is

achieved only by confessing one's sins, asking for forgiveness and living life in accordance to the

Bible. Protestants also interpret the Bible more literally than Catholics. Children tend to be

baptized into the Catholic faith son after they are born because the Catholic belief in original sin

means that everyone is born sinful and cannot enter Heaven without first being baptized.

Although Christians also believe that people are inherently sinful, they believe that God makes

exceptions for babies and other innocents and allows them into Heaven. So baptism in Protestant

religions is usually done when individuals are old enough to profess their devotion to God. The

two divisions of Christianity are also split on their visions of Heaven and Hell. Catholics believe

them to be more figurative whereas Protestants think of them as literal places.

Roman Catholics teach that the Roman Catholic Church is the only true church, and that

the pope is the supreme authority over the church, having received his authority by direct

apostolic succession from Peter. Methodism teaches that apostolic succession does not hand
down Peter's authority from person to person, and that there is no single visible entity or church

that may be identified as "the true church."

CONCLUSION

For me as a person when I entered the two churches, I was being overwhelmed because I
felt that God is very near from me. And people inside the church I can sense their faith with God
especially when I entered the Methodists church, mostly of them is late 60’s and above and I
really appreciated the attitude they had shown to us. And all I can say is that the both church is
really wonderful, nice and peaceful.
