obvious that classroom management begins long before the students first enter the
classroom. Effective teachers plan their class management strategies before the
school year begins. They know what tasks they undertake at the beginning of the
year and likewise through out the year. This is shown in appendix 5.

Analysis
The purpose of the Action Research is to improve and develop my practice as a
teacher. Therefore, after collating all the data, I will separate them into two scenarios
(1) with intervention and (2) without intervention. Having analysed the class existing
practice during the first week, I am now able to identify the elements for change.
With the data collected from the questionnaires, teachers interview and from my
reflective journal, I am now able to make informed decisions on what's best for me
as a teacher and for the students in terms of classroom management and behaviour
management. I will look for commonalities between the responses and integrate
these ideas together as my action plan for classroom management and behaviour
management. I will also modify and make changes if I can. At least, this will give me
a platform to try out things in future should I encounter new problems in my teaching
life. The best thing about this exercise is that you are doing something that will work
for you to improve your practice. This process will also enhance my teaching
professional development armed with the knowledge that I can be a professional
knowledge maker than simply being a professional knowledge user.
Outcomes
From my research into the subject, I believe that by using researched evidence-
based practices, teachers can help create a positive learning environment in the
classroom, increase the student's engagement and provide a more effective learning
opportunity for all the students. At the same time as stipulated earlier on in the action
research, teachers can reduce their stress and enjoy their teaching experiences and
more importantly get a sense of joy and fulfilment at the reward of their students
enjoying their daily learning experience. When teachers possess good preventative
and responsive skills, the likelihood of problems emerging and developing into
incidents will be greatly reduced. As a teaching tool, I can use the material gathered
in different ways depending on my role and on the need as and when it arises. lt
could be used in the following ways:
. As an interesting read to confirm my confidence in my own skills in managing
my class and its behaviour
r As a resource pack that provides ideas and different approaches when
addressing issues or difficulties
. As a resource material for coaching or mentoring prospective Pre-Service
Teachers and
. As a resource to help and support other teaching staff.
Finally, teachers in general should identify the most effective strategies to transfer
research into practice to ensure that selected interventions are evidence-based,
contextually relevant, implemented with the school backing and continuously
monitored and enhanced. (2837 words)
