Meet the Candidates for Catholic
School Board Trustee - at OLS
The five candidates who are running in this area for School
Board Trustee in the October 25th election have been
invited to speak at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Hall on
October 18th (Monday) at 7:30 pm. Fr. Nino has granted
permission to have this meeting so that we as Catholic
School supporters, can make an informed decision on who
will best represent us. Paul Matthews will chair this

All Candidates Meeting
For Ward Five Councillors
On Tues., Oct. 5th, there will be an all candidates meeting
for the position of Councillor for Ward 5 at
Montgomery’s Inn – Community Room, 4709 Dundas
Street West (one block East of Islington Ave.) Time: 7 p.m.
Singing Opportunities with OLS Choirs
OLS has a very long tradition of excellence in sacred
music. All our choirs welcome new singers & hope that
eager people with a love of sacred music will consider
joining one of these fine choral groups.
Our 11:00 Chorale established a year ago has 10 singers
involved in singing SATB material from early Renaissance
through to present day. There is an emphasis on a capella
repertoire and in supporting congregational singing. With
10 members now, the choir would like to grow to a
maximum of 20.
If you have a good ear and like the idea of music ministry,
then perhaps this is your opportunity. Recent choir
experience is not compulsory but is a distinct asset.

Sacramental Preparation:
Confirmation
It is essential that you attend the information meeting
because details will be provided regarding registration and
future gatherings. All meetings will be held in the church.
Confirmation Information Meeting: If your child was
baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and born in 1997
or earlier and you wish to prepare your child to celebrate
Confirmation please attend one of the Parent Information
Meetings on either:
Sunday, October 3rd from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
OR Thursday, October 7th from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Note: Proof of Baptism will be required in order to
complete the registration for sacraments. Please be sure to
bring a copy of your child's Baptism Certificate for these
meetings.
Baptism for Children in School: Baptism is the first
Sacrament of Initiation and it is the sacrament that prepares
us to celebrate Confirmation and First Eucharist. If your
child is not baptized or if your child was baptized in
another Christian Church (Anglican, Lutheran, etc.) and
you would like your child to be a member of the Catholic
Church please call the parish at: 416-231-6016 and leave a

The Office for Refugees
Archdiocese of Toronto (ORAT)
The Archdiocese of Toronto is responding to the Iraqi
refugee crisis. Their Christian Community is facing
systematic elimination similar to genocide. As the
Archdiocese did thirty years ago, the Catholic community
was one of the leading faith groups in saving the lives of
Vietnamese (the boat people), the Archdiocese is again
asking the community to come to the aid of the refugees. In
response, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish will be sponsoring
an Iraqi refugee family. If you are interested in becoming
involved, please let the office know. We will be holding an
Information Session in October.
Ecumenical Bible Study Group
- begins Tues., Oct. 5th at Islington United Church
(Reception Room) - director Sr. Judith Kidd, I.B.V.M. -
studying the Pentateuch (1st 5 books - Old Testament).

Bundle UP Collection
October 23rd - 24th
Please note that this will be the only St. Vincent de Paul
Bundle UP collection at our parish this fall, so please
gather your gently used clothing, footwear, outerwear,
(for men, women and children) - along with bedding,
sleeping bags and textiles. The truck will be open on
Saturday from 8:30 am to after the 5:15 pm Mass, and on
Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Parish volunteers will
be available to help you load your donations into the back
of the truck before and after all Masses.
Life Chain Pro-Life Event
This Weekend!
Life Chain is a one hour, public witness with other pro-
lifers, on street corners across the nation. It is a prayerful,
peaceful witness to the sanctity of life on behalf of the
most vulnerable members of our society.
