Zu goth. maitan, ahd. meizan schneiden, hauen; vgl.
nhd. messer, metzeln, metzger, meifsel. Sollte nicht in je-
nen namen ein zu maitan gehoeriger Waffenausdruck stecken?
Eine nicht geringe anzahl von namen, die mit Mez- oder
gar mit Maz - beginnen, fuehre ich hier nicht auf, da fuer
sie sich bessere anknüpfnngspunkte finden. Auch Miezo
bei Guden a. 1028 möchte ich von MAIT absondern.
