Objectives

a. To be able to sensitize the existing Climate Change issues;

b. Perform and execute programs and projects that would help mainstream
knowledge concerning Climate;
c. Integration of gender roles, specially the women in mitigating the effects of
Climate change;
d. To build and strengthen alliances amongst the concerned organizations, such
as the Local Organizations, Local and National Government Units, Climate
Change Commission, Non-Government Organizations and International
Funders.

II. Highlights

The organizations had a rough start, specially in agreeing whether or not the issues that their
organizations face are directly affected by the Climate Change. Coming from different locations,
each organization were a little at lost on how to start the discussion. They all agreed that there
is little knowledge among them regarding Climate Change. In line with this, it took them a while
to ponder on the things that they were doing in relation to address the mitigation of Climate
Change. The following are the reasons that they cited: members have little understanding with
the effects of Climate Change; members are mainly concerned with the sustenance of the
household food security; members are more interested in livelihood programs, trainings,
seminars, microfinance (lending) and market possibilities that would help augment their
household income.

However, differences and challenges aside they were able come up with different issues,
solutions and suggestions to further improve their knowledge with regard to Climate Change.
The organizations have raised the following issues: Human and Food Security; Ecological and
Environmental Security and; Knowledge and Capacity Building. In line with this they have also
suggestions on how to help them integrate Climate Change issues in their operations through
the following: Mainstreaming Climate Change for Grassroots Level; People’s Survival Fund
Introduction; Streamlining of Business processes; Product Packaging and; Network and Alliance
Building.

III. Issues Raised:

The representatives were concerned on how to relate the effects of Climate Change to their
members due to the following reasons:

1. The members have little understanding and low regard with the effects and issues of
Climate Change;
2. The members, being most are stay at home women/mothers are mainly concerned with
the sustenance of the household food security;
3. The members are more interested in livelihood programs, trainings, seminars,
microfinance (lending) and market possibilities that would help augment their
household income.

The reasons stated above were brought to discussion by the members of PKKK, SIKAP BIDANI
and PATAMABA, wherein their members are mainly stay at home mothers and small time
farmers, with the aim to augment their income to be able to increase their household food
purchase. Consequently, all the other organization agreed to this reasons, because at some
point they all agreed that their members have similar cases of food security.
The representatives of Business and Professional Women’s Network and Community Crafts
Association, forwarded the issue of Knowledge and Capacity Building wherein they advocate to
increase awareness of Climate Change issues that may affect their members’ livelihood. Lastly
all organizations agreed that Ecological and Environmental Stability should also be put at stake
in terms of promoting business.
As they agreed they came up with the following issues:

A. Human and Food Security

Input and Output is affected.

Women in business, with the aim to augment their household income are
affected by Climate Change through weather and other untimely
environmental disturbances affect their input (raw materials, crops, livestock,
etc.) that they use to produce their output (product). Inefficient input will
further result to market loss that can decrease the chances of having higher
earnings. Poor households and small time farmers will be having a hard time
to gain what they lost due to the damages brought by extreme weather
conditions. (Stated by PKKK Representative and was consequently agreed by
the other organizations)

PKKK: Input is affected by Output.

B. Ecological and Environmental Stability

Women in business, seeks to look for possible alternatives for materials used
in production, safe working environment, promote waste segregation and
promotion of fair trade. (Stated by Community Crafts Association Inc and
Business Professional Women’s Network)

In addition, a safe environment would allow workers to be themselves, to

create more and to work hard for possible business ideas. (PKKK
Representative)

CCA Inc: We try to look for environment sound workplaces for them to work,

gawa nila.

CCA Inc: We try to look for alternative materials also, kasi minsan mahirap na,
market, lahat kikita sila

C. Knowledge and Capacity Building

Women in business, seeks to augment the knowledge of their members to

further help them develop their microbusiness, market reach and social and
environmental awareness.

IV. Proposed Solutions

Human and Food Security

The organizations address this issue through the following programs:

 Strategic Microfinance/Microcredit

Loans are given to their members to fund their microbusiness or

start-up livelihood projects. Members undergo evaluation and is
supported by the organization by requiring them to attend
livelihood workshops, trainings and microbusiness coaching to
help them develop their business.

matulungan naming sila magsimula. Meron kaming microloans,

ganyan kami. Pero kailangan muna silang ma-approve may
background check kami bago magpautang kasi kailangan naming
para sa records. Tsaka kapag nagpautang kami ayroon kaing
follow-up palagi sakanila. May mga meeting kami na kailangan
nilang puntahan.
Pangkain
araw-araw at pang puhunan.

 Savings Mobilization and Micro Insurance Investment

A program wherein organizations encourage their members to

save and deposit any amount. This is to be able to help them in
mitigating future financial stress due to unforeseen events and
damages.

Mahirap kasi yung
utang ng utang. Hindi maganda mahirap rin kapag hindi
nakakapayad.

 Cooperative

Organizations encourage their members to join a cooperative. This

is to help them improve their market reach and financial stability.

Mas lalong walang kita at
pangkain.
 Social Protection

Organizations encourage their members to join government

operated social security programs, such as Social Security System
(SSS), PhilHealth, etc. The organizations educate them with the
benefits of joining these programs in line with the objective to
help them mitigate future financial stress.

 Market Linkages

Organization organize events to help their members expand their

market reach and to further showcase their products.

Sana

may malapit ditto yun eh. Pero pwede rin gamitin iyon sa Climate
Change.

 Look for funders

Wherein organizations look for possible funders and clients to

fund the projects of their members.

BPWN: Funders will definitely help us in promoting the continuity

of our projects. Para consistent at sustainable ang livelihood ng
members natin.

Ecological and Environmental Stability

The organizations address this issue through the following programs:

 Fair Trade

Wherein in organizations classify the different products (food vs.

non-food) to be able to distribute them to different market events,
further promoting market balance.

Walang
mapapanis walang masasayang. Tsaka mas maayos yung pag ayos
ng mga bazaar at tiangge hindi magulo.

 Waste Segregation

Organizations encourage their members to use recycled materials

in producing their products. This will help them to decrease their
capital and increase their profits, while helping in reducing waste.

PATAMABA: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle ang turo sa amin. Pwede

paligid. Makakatulong sa Climate Change iyon.

CCA Inc: Okay din itong alternative for materials.

 Safe Working Environment

Organizations try to look for safe spaces for their members to

work and store their products.
That is what we need.

eh. Saying kapag may nasira.

 Research for Alternative Products

Organizations help their members look for alternative raw

materials. This will help mitigate shortage of materials.

pwedeng gawin.

Knowledge and Capacity Building

 Trainings, Seminars and Workshops

Organizations engage their members to different training for them

to learn new techniques on how to develop their livelihood. They
also encourage them to share their thoughts, ideas and other
experiences with regard to their microbusiness.

Climate Change.

SIKAP BIDANI: Ito naisip naming, since mayroon kaming weekly

maging pamilyar kami dito. Maganda sana iyon kasi talagang
community yung mga hawak naming, mga nanay. So kung
matututunan nila iyan alay natin makatulong talaga sila. Pwede

guidelines tungkol dito. Mas madali yung may sinusunod na
sample eh.
walang alam. Ayos matuto. Kung pwede nga palagi eh, para
tumatak sa isip nila. Minsan kasi puro kita ang naiisip nila eh, ayos
din yung makatulong sa paligid.

 Network Establishment, Social Media Promotions and

Partnerships

This is to improve market reach, wherein organizations utilize the

social media to help promote their members’ products.
Partnerships also to establish additional place of business and
promotion.
faceboook.

The organizations admit that Climate Change and its adverse effects are not the main concern of
their members, however they seek to have partnership with the Climate Change Commission
and other environmental agencies in order to provide deeper knowledge of the following:

 Mainstreaming Climate Change for Grassroots/Community Level

Education seminar
