II. Highlights
The organizations had a rough start, specially in agreeing whether or not the issues that their
organizations face are directly affected by the Climate Change. Coming from different locations,
each organization were a little at lost on how to start the discussion. They all agreed that there
is little knowledge among them regarding Climate Change. In line with this, it took them a while
to ponder on the things that they were doing in relation to address the mitigation of Climate
Change. The following are the reasons that they cited: members have little understanding with
the effects of Climate Change; members are mainly concerned with the sustenance of the
household food security; members are more interested in livelihood programs, trainings,
seminars, microfinance (lending) and market possibilities that would help augment their
household income.
However, differences and challenges aside they were able come up with different issues,
solutions and suggestions to further improve their knowledge with regard to Climate Change.
The organizations have raised the following issues: Human and Food Security; Ecological and
Environmental Security and; Knowledge and Capacity Building. In line with this they have also
suggestions on how to help them integrate Climate Change issues in their operations through
the following: Mainstreaming Climate Change for Grassroots Level; People’s Survival Fund
Introduction; Streamlining of Business processes; Product Packaging and; Network and Alliance
Building.
The representatives were concerned on how to relate the effects of Climate Change to their
members due to the following reasons:
1. The members have little understanding and low regard with the effects and issues of
Climate Change;
2. The members, being most are stay at home women/mothers are mainly concerned with
the sustenance of the household food security;
3. The members are more interested in livelihood programs, trainings, seminars,
microfinance (lending) and market possibilities that would help augment their
household income.
The reasons stated above were brought to discussion by the members of PKKK, SIKAP BIDANI
and PATAMABA, wherein their members are mainly stay at home mothers and small time
farmers, with the aim to augment their income to be able to increase their household food
purchase. Consequently, all the other organization agreed to this reasons, because at some
point they all agreed that their members have similar cases of food security.
The representatives of Business and Professional Women’s Network and Community Crafts
Association, forwarded the issue of Knowledge and Capacity Building wherein they advocate to
increase awareness of Climate Change issues that may affect their members’ livelihood. Lastly
all organizations agreed that Ecological and Environmental Stability should also be put at stake
in terms of promoting business.
As they agreed they came up with the following issues:
Women in business, with the aim to augment their household income are
affected by Climate Change through weather and other untimely
environmental disturbances affect their input (raw materials, crops, livestock,
etc.) that they use to produce their output (product). Inefficient input will
further result to market loss that can decrease the chances of having higher
earnings. Poor households and small time farmers will be having a hard time
to gain what they lost due to the damages brought by extreme weather
conditions. (Stated by PKKK Representative and was consequently agreed by
the other organizations)
PKKK: Input is affected by Output.
silang malulugi.
Women in business, seeks to look for possible alternatives for materials used
in production, safe working environment, promote waste segregation and
promotion of fair trade. (Stated by Community Crafts Association Inc and
Business Professional Women’s Network)
CCA Inc: We try to look for environment sound workplaces for them to work,
CCA Inc: We try to look for alternative materials also, kasi minsan mahirap na,
market, lahat kikita sila
Strategic Microfinance/Microcredit
Cooperative
Market Linkages
Fair Trade
Waste Segregation
CCA Inc: Okay din itong alternative for materials.
The organizations admit that Climate Change and its adverse effects are not the main concern of
their members, however they seek to have partnership with the Climate Change Commission
and other environmental agencies in order to provide deeper knowledge of the following:
Wherein their members can be oriented with the use and benefits
of the PSF, by providing planning and proposal workshops that can
help their members prepare plans to be approved by the PSF
handlers. (Suggested by PKKK, PATAMABA, SIKAP BIDANI and CCA
Inc)
