Full Scale Load Test for RCC Structures

Structure Description:

The structure is a G+2 industrial building located at Poman, Vasai. It is an RCC building with Pre-Stressed beams spanning
lengths of 14.75m and 10.375m designed for unfactored load of 500Kg/sqm.

The load test to verify the structural performance of the RCC structure shall be performed at the location shown in the
attached drawing. The full-scale load test shall be carried out on the slab panel of 22.42m wide and 14.7m long using sand
bags or cement bags conforming to the code recommendations attached herewith.

The structural performance of the RCC structure shall be verified if the structure meets the IS code requirements as per
clause 17.6 of IS 456:2000.

Test Loading:

Unfactored test load: 500Kg/sqm

Test patch: 22.42m wide and 14.7m long
Total imposed load = 1.25 x 500 x (22.42 x 14.7) = 2,05,985 Kgs

IS code requirements (clause 17.6 of IS 456:2000):

Recovery Provision: As per the Indian standard IS456, clause 17.6.3, the deflection due to imposed load only shall be
recorded. If within 24Hr of removal of the imposed load the structure does not recover at least 75% of the deflection
under superimposed load, the test may be repeated after a lapse of 72Hr. If the recovery is less than 80%, the structure
shall be deemed to be unacceptable.

As per the Indian standard IS456: clause 17.6.3.1 If the maximum deflection in mm, shown during 24hr under load is less
than 40l2 / D, where l is the effective span in m and D the overall depth of the section in mm, it is not necessary for the
recovery to be measured and the recovery provisions of clause 17.6.3 shall not apply.
