Installation Prerequisites
Before installing the software, review these prerequisites:
1. Have the CIMPLICITY Server license ready, including the iPower (Powerlink
Connect) license option.
5
2. Select and start the CiPowerDemo.gef project in the Select CIMPLICITY Project dialog.
3. Log in when prompted using these credentials:
Username: Admin
Password: admin
4. Review the iPower for CIMPLICITY demo project.
NOTE: You can access the demonstration guide under Help in the iPower for CIMPLICITY menu or
directly from the default installation folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Proficy\Proficy
CIMPLICITY\iPower\Help.
iPower Overview
iPower is an application suite that runs with CIMPLICITY. iPower provides operator
runtime and system configuration facilities that are integrated with the standard
SCADA features provided by CIMPLICITY.
For the electric industry sector, CIMPLICITY, iPower, DNP, and IEC-61850 drivers are
bundled together and delivered as Powerlink Connect.

Creating an iPower/Powerlink Connect Project
You can create a new project (for example, MyProject) by opening the template project in the
CIMPLICITY Workbench and using the File>Copy To Project menu item, and selecting a
location and name for the new project. You then open the new project in the Workbench,
being mindful that the template project remains open in the Workbench after running the
File>Copy To Project command. The iPower for CIMPLICITY template project has class
definitions but does not have a sample database or screens. You can find the project at:
When you create a new project, update the Proficy for Power SCADA background services
with the new project information as follows:
[Project Connection]
ProjectList=CIPOWERDEMO,IPOWERTEST,MYPROJECT
You can also view and edit connected projects on the Connection Projects tab, which you
access through the MOA Manager Configuration dialog.
The template project is configured with a default admin/admin for user and password. Using
the CIMPLICITY Workbench, change the admin password.
7
Creating an iPower/Powerlink Connect Screen
The iPower template project includes a sample screen called iPowerDefaultScreen.cim that
you can use as a common starting point to develop iPower and Powerlink Connect screens.
The sample screen includes the events, variables, and interfaces required by iPower.
Follow these steps to create iPower screens using the sample screen:
2. Right click and select Edit. Under the CimEdit file menu, select SaveAs to save the
screen under the required screen name.
3. To insert and display an iPower object on the screen, select Class Object from the
Drawing (Illustrations) menu.
Note that the iPower template project does not have any configured database
objects. You must first create them before you can perform screen editing.
You can manually create database objects (see Configuring Sample DNP
Points), or automatically create them (see Getting Started with dbArchitect or
Exporting and Importing DNP-Based Projects).
4. To insert an iPower list control on the screen, select iPower List Control from the
Drawing (Objects) menu.
For a description of the screen development process, see the CIMPLICTY Help and iPower
Configuration Guide.
8
Configuring DNP and IEC 61850 Drivers
NOTE: When running under CIMPLICITY, the driver runs as a service and there is no visible tray icon.
The DNP driver option installs the Catapult DNP driver, which supports DNP 3.0 master
communications for up to 1,000 slave devices across serial and/or IP channels.
The DNP installer creates shortcuts to the DNP driver and documentation in the Windows
Start menu at All Programs | Proficy | ProficyDrivers | Catapult DNP3.
1. Open the DNP3 Help, and find the section in the contents that describes DNP
configuration steps for CIMPLICITY:
2. Follow the steps to add the DNP driver and to configure a port and device.
9
Proficy Driver Server IEC 61850 protocol is installed with CIMPLICITY. Follow these steps to
configure the IEC 61850 Driver:
1. After the iPower project is started, launch the DNP client from the desktop DNP
icon (or if DNP Configuration is enabled in the Project Properties, you can launch
the DNP client configuration from that location).
10
a. Configure a test channel (port) by referring to DNP Help documentation at:
DNP3 driver configuration | Channel Configuration
11
b. Configure a test device (for example, TestRTU) as described in:
DNP3 driver configuration | Device Configuration | Device Configuration
2. In Workbench, browse to view points, and select a representative object from the
demo project as follows (for example, you can associate a DNP analog point with
a feeder current):
12
b. Update the device ID details on the General tab.
13
c. Update the address details on the Address tab.
3. Browse to view points in Workbench, and select a representative object from the
demo project. For example, you can associate a DNP digital point with an alarm
point.
a. Select the object (for example, POW_SUB_CB37_DI_ALARM).
b. Update the device ID on the General tab.
14
c. Update the address details on the Input Address tab.
15
Configuring Sample IEC 61850 Points
iPower includes dbArchitect, a tool used for automatic configuration of the CIMPLICITY iPower
database and Proficy Driver configuration, based on customer 61850 definition files (SCD and
ICD).
Configuration details of the Proficy Driver and IEC 61850 protocol are described in the Proficy
Driver Server documentation in the Proficy Driver Server user interface:
16
Follow these steps to configure sample IEC 61850 points:
1. In the Proficy Driver Server Help, access IEC 61850 Protocol under Supported
Drivers:
2. As outlined in the help, add an IEC 61850 Device by right clicking on the Devices
node and adding an IEC 61850 device.
17
3. Configure the appropriate communication properties and data sets in the device
and access paths, as explained in the help.
NOTE: If you connected devices, you can use the Protocol Device scan at the project level
to find communicating devices and automatically set up device representations.
For Proficy Driver Server IEC 61850 communication issues, use the statistics and logging tabs
as well as the properties of the pre-defined data blocks (for IEC 61850 data sets) and aliases in
the Proficy Driver Server client. You can access them from the CIMPLICITY device dialog or
from the Windows Start menu.
18
CIMPLICITY Help and iPower for CIMPLICITY Help is available describing the class, object, and
screen configuration process through the iPower for CIMPLICITY menu Help button. Refer to
the items under the Configuration Guides.
Follow these steps to use dbArchitect to import SCL file items and SCADA objects into a
project:
1. Copy your project’s SCL files into the default dbArchitect SCL folder:
2. While the project is running, open the CIMPLICITY Workbench and select dbArchitect
from the system tree:
19
3. In the dbArchitect user interface, you can browse the project’s SCD files:
5. Check the box next to the loaded SCL file to select all its objects, and then
right click to select Generate SCADA Database from Selected.
6. Select the project in which to generate the objects, and click OK.
If you are not already logged in, CIMPLICITY displays a login window for you to enter
your credentials. The import starts.
20
9. Refresh the list of objects in the project. The selected items from the SCL file and
generated SCADA objects now appear in your project.
You can use these import and export scripts for bulk database production.
Class name
Object name
Attribute name and value pairs
The ‘|’ separator is used rather than a comma to reduce possible conflicts in the object
descriptions. You can add additional lines using a text editor, such as Notepad.
Existing objects are overwritten to apply all changes. New objects are created as required.
21
When the import completes, follow these steps:
1. Restart Workbench.
2. Run the project, and apply configuration changes when prompted.
Remote Viewing
Logging Solutions
The logging solutions store data and alarms to use for trend charts and historical alarm
displays. These include:
GE Historian logs information that enable you to quickly view KPIs, real-time
trends, history, and alerts from any device.
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Microsoft SQL server 2014 can log historical data
and alarms from CIMPLICITY. You can use SQL Server Express that is included
with CIMPLICITY or one of the SQL Server editions. For more information on
these capabilities, see the CIMPLICITY Help file at C:\Program Files
(x86)\Proficy\ProficyDoc\1033\CIMPLICITY\Dlcfgui.chm. You can use this
logged data for historical trends and historical alarm review.
