Mindfulness Walking
“Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 4: 6-7
We hope everyone is taking advantage of these beautiful summer days by going for walks. We encourage
you to make your walking even more healthy by being mindful. Mindfulness means being more fully aware
of experiences in the present moment. Often when we walk we separate movement from our thoughts. Our
bodies do one thing while our minds race in another direction altogether often making to-do lists or stressing
about work or family.
Mindful walking is an opportunity to be fully present in what our body is doing. We can be mindful of our
breath, of how our bodies feel, of how our bodies respond to the environment, of how our thoughts take form
and to bring them back to the bodily experience rather than watching them race off.
We can mindfully choose how to bring our thoughts toward supporting health in body and spirit as we walk
with a meditative focus. A brief devotional time before a walk can provide the focus to center our minds as
we walk and open up space where God’s healing presence may become clear.

DID YOU KNOW there are programs available to help pay for your Medicare costs? Medicare Savings
Programs assist people with Medicare who have limited income and resources. If eligible, your Medicare
Part B premium would be paid for you and you would automatically qualify for low cost prescriptions. That
savings would be over $100 per month! Another program known as “Extra Help” assists qualified
individuals with their prescription drug costs. If you or someone you know is on Medicare and struggling to
make ends meet, contact Brenda Kohel, Elder Benefit Specialist to learn more!

More Parish Nurse News: The parish nurses are now selling Kwik Trip car wash cards in addition to
Kwik Trip and Holiday gas cards. You can get 5 Ultimate $10 car washes for $40. These cards are a great gift
for the hard-to-buy-for people in your lives.
The Peace Parish Nurses are starting a bereavement card ministry to provide comfort and
support to people in our congregation whose immediate family members have died. Cards
will be sent at the time of death, at 3-month intervals and at special times such as the loved
one’s birthday or wedding anniversary during the first year following a death of a spouse,
parent, child, or sibling. An appropriate Care Notes® pamphlet will be sent with the card.
We recently applied for and received a $150 mini-grant from Northern Waters Parish Nurse
Ministry to start the card ministry. We welcome people to be part of this special ministry.
Let Jan Stevens know if you want to be involved. Also makes us aware of congregation
members whose loved ones have died.
A special thanks
to the
Norma Fechtelkotter
family for donating
crab apple trees for
the church grounds
in remembrance of
Norma.
