Oluchukwu Ofoegbu.

The stories will include: 'Weightless', 'Just fly', 'I Can’, 'Rise', 'My Cool
Granny', and 'My Country and I ' .

‘Every Child' is a mind empowering anthology television series that features

children as its lead characters. The show feature stories of Children
navigating and surmounting diverse circumstances peculiar to Nigerian
children, which evry child can relate to. The show also features the
characters expressing their emotions through singing in their dialect as
well as in English, this helps to convey the mood of each story with more
depth.

PURPOSE AND NEED

Children are becoming desensitised to wrongdoing, crime and violence

because it's all around them - in the family, on the internet, the TV, video
games and movies. Communities and Families are dysfunctional due to the
increase in youth delinquency. Children battle with low self esteem, peer
pressure and several dampening emotions in the face of thriving hardship
and social class.

It is therefore pertinent that children are inspired and admonished through

Television shows, to believe in their potentials and make integrity based
decisions regardless of the circumstance.

parents and best friend, she realised that failure is only an opportunity to
reevaluate ones decisions and actions and rise to greater heights.

Omo Obirin is sitting on the floor , sobbing aloud and lost in her thought .
We close in on her head faced down, school bag and books lying
loosely on the floor.
A beat.

Class listen to your scores in your first test for the subject;

We close in on Omo Obirin Akano listening attentively to her class teacher.

Class Teacher's Voice O.S

Omo Obirin Akano, your score is three out of twenty-five
questions.

The class teacher hands Omo Obirin's answer sheets to her.

3. INT - MR. AKANO'S SITTING ROOM - DAY

Omo Obirin who has been sobbing raises her head to reveal her eyes
heavy with tears

OMO OBIRIN

(melancholic)

I have failed!, I have fallen short of who I used to be and I have

disappointed my parents expectations. When I was in primary
school, I was an outstanding student; I made recitations every
week in the assembly on behalf of my class, I won trophies for
my school at several academic and sporting competitions. My
teachers always referred to me as an exemplary child every
student should emulate. All students wanted to be as intelligent
as I was and my friends boasted about me when they hung out

with other students. Now, my worst fear has caught up with me;
I had the least score in Information Technology amongst all
first years in Junior Secondary, I am ashamed of myself. Why?
Why now? This is the first test result I have received since I
entered Junior Secondary. How will other subjects be? Am I
going to become a laughing stock amongst my mates? How am
I going to face my parents. (sobbing aloud) It is over for me and
I do not think I can continue in this school. It is either I change
school or I quit schooling completely. Why is life so cruel?

A knock is heard on the door O. S. Omo Obirin startles and runs horridly to
the store room close to the dinning section and shuts the door. The knock
on the entrance is heard once and Mr. and Mrs. Akano both in their late
thirties and clad in an office attire enters. They are perturbed after sighting
Omo Obirin's school bag and books on the floor.
Mrs. Akano

Where is my baby? Why is her bag and books on the floor? (To
Mr. Akno) Why didn’t she lock the door after she came in? Who
has taken my baby?

Mr. Akano:

(assuredly) Iyawo mi, calm down, we will look for her around
the house then at her friend’s house before we raise any alarm.
Alright?

Together, Mr. and Mrs. Akano proceeds to the door that leads to their inner
rooms. We see them search Omo Obirin's room, kitchen, toilet, their penal
rooms but still no sight of Omo Obirin. After a while, they re-emerge at the
sitting room still looking delirious

Mrs. Akano

(hysterical)

What is happening to me? Where is my only child?

Mr.Akano

Let us look for her in the store then we will go to her friend’s
house.

Together they approach the door to the store and attempt to open the door
to no avail

Mrs. Akano

Omo Obirin are you in there? Please talk to us.

Mr.Akano

My angel, your mother and I are confused, if you don’t talk to us

we will have no choice than to break the door.

Omo Obirin Voice O. S

Please go away, I want to be left alone!!

Mrs. Akano

(Heaves a sigh of relief)

My baby, do you want your father and I to be unhappy? You are

all we have in this world and we are going to stay here with you.

Mr. Akano

My daughter whatever it is, I promise that we will not judge you

or make you feel uncomfortable, please open the door and talk
to us.

OMO Obirin's Voice O. S

I am ashamed of myself. I don’t want to go to school anymore. I

don’t want to see those people again, I want to be left alone

forever.

Mr. and Mrs. Akano

(stunned)

what?

Mr. Akano

(In a reassuring tone)

That is not an option my child. We love you more than anything

in the world. If you stay there we will stay here with you forever.

Mr. and Mrs. Akano both sits down on the floor by the door of the store. A
knock is heard on the entrance door.

Mr. Akano

Come in, the door is open!

Ore a young girl of about the same age as Omo Obirin enters

Ore

Ekaso Ma, Ekaso Sir.

Mrs. Akano

Good afternoon Ore. Bawoni?

Mr. Akano

How are you Ore?

Ore

I am very well thank you. Please ma I am looking for Omo

Obirin.

Mrs. Akano

She is the reason we are sitting by the door of our store. We

came home and discovered that she locked herself inside and
has refused to come out.

Mr. Akano

Ore, what happened to your friend in school today?

Ore

During our Information Technology class, our teacher handed

out answer sheets for our first test. While handing out the sheet,
she announced each students score and Omo Obirin got three
questions correctly out of twenty five questions. Thereafter, we
went out on brake but I could not find Omo Obirin.

Mrs. Akano

(sympathetically)

My baby! She must have been shocked. She has always

excelled in class.

Close on Mr. Akano he appears deasy then slumps on his back

unconsciously and faints

Ore

What is happening to Daddy?

Mrs. Akano

(Devastated)

Okomi!, Ah!! Please wake up. What is happening to my family?

Somebody help me! (Mrs. Akano brings out her mobile phone
and starts to nubers)

Ore

(banging on the door to the store)

Open the door, your father has collapsed! Omo Obirin open the
door!

Omo Obirin opens the door and rushes to her father

Omo Obirin

(nudging her father continuously)

Daddy! Please wake up! Please mummy let us take him to the
hospital.

Mrs. Akano:

I just started learning how to drive and my hands are not strong
on the steering yet. Ore please are your parents at home? I am
dialing our family doctor but his number is not going through.

Omo Obirin

Let me go and call our neighbors, somebody should be able to

help.

Mr.Akano grabs Omo Obirin by the hand and bursts into laughter

Ore

Yes, he is awake. Yes! Yes!!

Mrs. Akano:

(while embraces Mr. Akano)

Oko mi, are you alright?

Daddy you scared me please do not do it again.

Mr. Akano:

My daughter I am sorry but you left me with no other choice. I

had to do something in order to get your attention.

Mr. Akano Embraces Omo Obirin

Mr. Akano

Please pardon me. My daughter, the lessons I want you to learn

from what just happened is that you are resilient and capable of
handling any circumstance. When you saw me lying down
unconscious, you started suggesting actionable plans on how to
save my life. That is who you are. You are not defined by any
circumstance regardless of the outcome. Your life is not an
event, an encounter or a destination. You are much more, you
are a life time. Therefore you learn from each encounter how to
best harness your abilities, intelligence, skills and competence
to solve problems, proffer solutions, thrive in any circumstance
and restrategise when you do not get your desired result.

Mrs. Akano

(Pulls Omo Obirin close)

My baby, YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. If you are disappointed by
your performance in a subject or anything else you do in life,
see it as an opportunity to express a new level of intelligence.
The challenge will sharpen your skills and make you stand out.
Most importantly, you have gained the wisdom of how to
approach each task differently.

Ore

My best friend, I have admired your aptitude since we were in

primary school and you have inspired me to do my best at all

times. There is nothing to be ashamed of, we are not defined by
one subject or one experience. Together, we will study fervently,
we will ask questions in class and approach our teachers as
well as other students to clarify any topic or subject we don’t
understand. We will not relent, rather we will be consistent in
our approach and we will not underestimate any subject. Also,
we will make it fun to learn and discover new approach to
solving any challenge we encounter in our academic pursuit

Thank you so much Mummy, Daddy and Ore. Your words and
actions have truly uplifted me. I thought you all will be
disappointed in me and even mock me . However, your attitude
have given me what I desperately needed which is acceptance.
I have realised that it is alright to fail and rather than be
ashamed, I should learn and move on. That is exactly what I am
going to do.
