HR Mini Projects

1-   HRBP:

Saeeda AlSuwaidi graduated from the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) as a

Business and Information Technology major before joining ADIA in early 2008. She spent
four years working in the IT Department until came the opportunity of joining the Year One
Program (YOP) in 2012. The YOP consisted of two parts, the first of which involved
preparing for the CFA, and the second of which consisted of simulating a working business
environment. For a period of six months, Saeeda was given case studies that involved
analyzing and evaluating different asset classes and presenting those results to mock
investment committees.

In Saeeda’s view, the relationship between the IT Department and the organization as a
whole is a strong one. IT is responsible for providing innovative technology and
infrastructures that best serve the objectives of ADIA as a whole. As a Market Data Services
employee, Saeeda provides the tools, research and infrastructure that ADIA needs by acting
as a liaison between vendors and in-house departments. This involves being aware of not
only the business but external sectors as well. One example of fulfilling a need was providing
the organization with Bloomberg tools (e.g. Bloomberg Terminals).

Positivity and ambition are two characteristics that Saeeda believes are key to leading a
successful career in ITD. Having the right attitude and energy in your work ethic is essential
to maintaining a collaborative and productive environment. One thing Saeeda suggests is
“loading up on your energy” before starting your day because doing so is necessary in
keeping your head high and yourself grounded in your work.

Specifically to ITD, a person ought to expect challenges and be flexible in the face of
changes. In the world of IT, things are constantly in flux, new technology as well as new
programming languages are always emerging and developing. Hence, to be a productive
employee, you must be open to learning and having new experiences that contribute to your
growth. When Saeeda joined the YOP, she went in with the mindset of challenging herself in
taking the CFA and developing her business knowledge. A couple of things she mentioned
worth exploring for any candidate include Claritas (now referred to as the CFA Institute
Investment Foundations Program), and partaking in a Personal Development Program. In the
latter, you develop soft skills that are relevant for any employee, including the way you brand
yourself and set yourself apart from your peers or fellow candidates.

Saeeda finds ADIA’s culture and work environment unique. When comparing ADIA to
other organizations, Saeeda finds herself in a more professional, more challenging yet a more
nurturing organization. Saeeda also claims that the development opportunities available at the
disposal of employees here at ADIA is like no other.

Saeeda’s one advice to a new joiner coming into ADIA is to stay humble, keep learning and
always have a positive attitude.
2-   ASP: China Summer Camp for EP Students
What: China Summer camp
When: Summer 2019 [ first week of August ]
Where: China town in Dubai and a hotel close by.
Who: 15 Students in grade 10 who showed interest in studying in China but didn’t get the
chance to go to the China trip with ASP.
Why: To help EP students evaluate if studying abroad in china is feasible, enjoyable and
rewarding experience or not.
The camp objectives:
Broad knowledge of the culture of China and the culture of universities there.
Connect Students to Chinese Friends and Families.
Building a purpose of why would they study and China and does that serve ADIA.
Long term projects:
Fill out a form if it fits them or not and why considering the information and
experiences they will undergo in this camp.
Make a presentation talking about their virtual study abroad experience in China
mentioning : challenges they faced and how they overcame them.
Assessing if the language would be too challenging for them or not.
Assessing where they fit in the comfort zone.
Students choose any book of their preference about china some of which that I
recommend are listed here:
“CULTURE WISE: CHINA BY LEO LACEY. There is a wide range of books for
Westerners to understand contemporary Chinese culture in a way that informs on
observed behavior and norms such as Chinese festivals, and customs like the role of
the famous "guanxi" (connections) in society. As CAPA Beijing students often
complete an internship, some reference to business etiquette is also useful, which this
book includes.”
“ON CHINA BY HENRY KISSINGER. This is a comprehensive read by an
authoritative author, former US Secretary of State, Dr Henry Kissinger, who
experienced many encounters with Chinese leaders. Justifiably, it is a New York
Bestseller's title. If you're not able to read all of it, do embrace Chapter 4 on Mao's
Continuous Revolution, to get that important sense of how the era of Chairman Mao
influenced Beijing and how his spirit lingers on in such details as the portrait and
mausoleum in Tiananmen Square, his face on bank notes, that famous little Red Book
and more.”

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People ( recommended for free time, after the camp)
