CHRISTIAN ETHICS 4, LESSON 1 ALLEN MARK B.

LUPERA

What was his ethical challenge?

The ethical challenge for Noah is to obey the order or command of God even though he
knew that the people around him will laugh at him and will criticize him for building an ark.
Though it is absurd for Noah to build an ark in the woods, he did not hesitate to follow God
and trusted in his words. Since the world was full of evil, there is no longer a purpose for
human to exist and God chosen Noah because he is a good person. God knows that Noah
was a just man and perfect in his generations.

What was his ethical action?

Noah’s ethical action was to take immediate action with respect to the order of God to build
an ark. Noah did not doubt the power and wisdom of the Lord. Instead of questioning God,
he quietly followed Him. Noah knew that the earth is filled with evil and violence. Hence, he
trusted God and believed in His judgment. The warnings given to Noah’s generation are
relevant today. God has given warning of the judgment to come and provided a way of
salvation.

What was his temptation?

Noah’s temptation comes from being drunk by drinking wine. There are also times where he
thought of not continuing building an ark because a great flood might not come. Regardless
of how close we are to God, we remain susceptible to the temptations of sin. Sin comes
from the heart of man. Sin comes from the desire of the flesh which we are never separated
from during this life.

What was the cost of his doing what was right?

The cost for Noah by doing what is right is by leaving his life and devoted his time and
strength to the Lord. There are people who will often criticize you for doing what is right and
you might also sacrifice your time with your family by obeying the command of the Lord.
But that doesn’t hinder Noah from obeying the Lord because he trust Him and he knew that
he will be forever rewarded by the God. Noah allowed himself to be used by the Lord to give
warning to the people in order to save them but they refused. Hence, only Noah’s family
were save and the animals.

What was the reward of doing what was right?

The reward of doing what is right is salvation. By choosing to obey the Lord, good things will
come on people’s way. God wanted to cleanse the earth from evil, violence and corruption.
By choosing to obey God, he was rewarded by saving him and his family from the great
flood. They were spare from God’s judgment. Hence, they were rewarded with another life
by doing what is right.
