celebrates another
successful
Initiation Season
Limpopo Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settle-
ments and Traditional Affairs’ MEC, Jerry Ndou is set to officially
close off the 2018 Initiation Schools’ Season. The Initiation School
programme took place from the 16th of June 2018 to the 22nd of
July 2018. The Department received a total of 455 applications to
run initiation schools, of which 451 initiation schools were approved
consisting of 268 schools for males and 183 schools for females.
Limpopo is a leader in running effective initiation schools for over
20 years now. This success can only mean that the Province con-
tinues to be a shining example in so far as this cultural practice is
concerned.

Mandela last week. Mandela Day is a
global call to ac on that celebrates the
idea that each individual has the power
to transform the world, the ability to
make an impact. The mine SED team
engaged on three ac vi es in the sur-
rounding communi es.
The first ac vity was in partnership
with Sekhukhune FM, this ac vity took
place at home of the Moyela family
located at Matshosho Village. DCM
donated groceries and blankets to the
family who expressed their thanks
and dire need for the dona on. When
Dwarsrivier SED Superintendent Pius
Monyela addressed the gathering at the
family house he emphasized the need
to help the less fortunate and spoke about
the Mine’s commitment in addressing the
plight of the communi es.
The second stop of the Mandela Day
ac vi es was the newly build Maseven
Clinic were DCM donated three wheel-
chairs. The excited matron at the clinic
has given all praises to the mine for caring
about the health of community members.
It was not all for the day as the SED
team went on to donate an addi onal
three wheelchairs and 53 blankets at
Ga-Mampuru Rehlahleng Special School.

Celebrations as children
finish initiation school
Last weekend was filled with celebration for many families
as their children completed their initiation school stay.
At the Marotha-A-Bogwasha Traditional Council in Ga-Mo-
todi a total of 463 boys received their certificates and 640
girls. Children from the age of 12 can attend the initiation
or “bush” school as it is also known. Respect and pride is
some of the key values taught during this school.
Upon completion the boys each received a certificate
and created victory flags with white cloths tied to the end
of their sticks used during the school programme. The
girls also received certificates and in some cases families
celebrated their tradition and heritage with traditional song,
clothes and dances.
Kghosi TR Sekhukhune from the Marotha-A-Bogwasha
Traditional Council and his son, Motodi Sekhukhune made
sure that the final proceedings went well as certificates
were handed out and parents came to collect their chil-
dren. While Kghosigadi ME Sekhukhune oversaw the girls’
event.
The next school will take place in 2021 and those interest-
ed can enquire at the traditional council offices.
At another school in Mosotsi falling under the auspices of
Kghosi Moloto, a total of 318 initiates completed their
initiation school activities.

Mangabane Primary School give back

Mangabane Primary School grade 7
learners gave 67 minutes on Mandela
Day on 18 July 2918. The learners moved
through the residential area and the area
around the school to collect rubbish. They
divided into five groups and the idea was
to not only give back, but to also have fun
while doing it. The learners were also taught
about the importance of giving back and why
Mandela Day is celebrated.

“The acquisition of Glencore’s stake in
the Mototolo JV increases Anglo American
Platinum’s interest in a mechanised, low-
cost, high quality resource, creating another
major PGM hub for the company. The trans-
action unlocks significant optionality for the
Company in its wholly-owned Der Brochen
resource.”
The Mototolo operation is 30km west of
Burgersfort in Limpopo in the Eastern Limb
of the Bushveld complex and operates under
a mining right covering 9 square km.
The company says the acquisition of
Glencore’s interest in the Mototolo JV better
positions Anglo American Platinum as the
majority owner of a high-quality, fully mecha-
nised operation. The transaction will secure
significant infrastructure for Anglo American
Platinum, allowing for value-enhancing
optionality between the Mototolo JV area
and the adjacent wholly owned Der Brochen
resource, creating a major PGM hub for
the company. By combining the Mototolo
JV area with the downdip and adjacent Der
Brochen resource, the life-of-mine is also
significantly extended from the current esti-
mated 5 year life of mine, to well in excess
of a 30 year life of mine.
The transaction comprises an upfront
cash payment, which at 30 June 2018 is
estimated to be R0.8 billion on a cash free
basis and an additional consideration, which
will be settled monthly over a six-year period
and will be determined based on the Rand
PGM prices over the Mototolo JV life of
mine. While the additional consideration is
not yet determinable the total purchase con-
sideration will be capped at R22 billion.
The transaction is subject to a number of
conditions precedent, including Competition
Commission approval. The effective date of
the transaction is expected to be in Q4 2018.
As at the company’s year ended 31
December 2017, the value of the net assets,
excluding cash pertaining to the transaction
assets was R0.7 billion. The losses attributa-
ble to the transaction assets was R3 million,
impacted by the temporary closure of the
Mototolo concentrator.

Come play at the
Wildevy 4x4 Family Day
This Saturday the annual Wildevy 4x4 Family Day
promises to be even bigger and better than before.
This day, aimed at raising funds for a variety of charita-
ble projects will see large numbers of 4x4 enthusiasts
participate in a fun course. Spectators will be treated
to loads of action and will once again be able to move
from point to point with the free tractor transport provid-
ed.
Some of the new attractions of this year’s event is the
wine garden called the “Die Wawiel”. This is a spot with
a peaceful atmosphere where products such as KWV
Brandy, wine from Orangerivier Cellars and sparkling
wines will be served - items not available from the beer
garden.
This year a Potjiekos competition and braai competition
will see participants battle it out for the best potjie and
braai. The theme is “Kom wys jou vernuf/Come show

your skills”. A special area had been created for this
competition - this is called the “kraal” and participants in
these competitions will be judged on theme, taste and
team spirit. The originality of teams is expected to also
bring loads of fun into the competition.
Visitors will be able to browse through the variety of
stalls selling from food to flea market items and a
helicopter will be on hand to give visitors a view from
above. Horse rides will be available and the children
can play at the carnival rides and fun park created for
them.
Elvis se Seun - Stefan Ludick will be the live entertain-
ment for the evening’s dance and party.
The Wildevy 4x4 Family Day is taking place at PLM Bo-
erdery on the R37 towards Mashishing (Lydenburg). It
is about 10km out of Burgersfort and visitors will clearly
see the marked turn-off from the main road. A special
car park area has been created and
transport from there to the main event

At each point on the course 4x4 partici-
pants will have to complete a challenge
which not only include skill at driving.
This is part of the fun spectators can look
forward to.
At the end of the day’s 4x4 action the
“Show Stopper” will once again close
off the driving action at the ever popular
muddy pools. Spectators can look for-
ward to participants taking on the ultimate
challenge reserved for only the brave and
extremely skilled drivers.
Don’t miss out on this year’s event - it
starts at 07:00 until late on 28 July 2018.

Ratels face-off with Malelane

The Ratels Rugby Club played against a team from Malel-
ane in a league game last weekend. The game took place at
Steelpoort Academy’s rugby field.
The Ratels faced some tough competition and had to defend
from the start of the game. The team, still plagued by injuries
and players unable to play did their best against a well pre-
pared Malelane.
Malelane scored within the first five minutes of the game and
were regular visitors behind the tryline.
The final score was 66-14 in favour of the visitors. Janus
Weber and Jaco Swart were the two local stars of the game.
Jaco Swart was also the player responsible for the two tries
on the Ratels’ side.
The next game will be on 4 August 2018 and
it will again be played at Steelpoort Academy.
They will play against the Impalas and the
game will start at 15:00.
