INCLINING TEST ( IMO Res. A 749 ( 18 ), as amended by MSC 75 )

Shortens used: See MSC/Circ.920

The form shall be used for the following ships:

All passenger ships in national trade with a length of 24 m or more and alle passengersships in international trade.
All cargo ships and fishing vessels of 24 metres in length and over.
For other type of ships an other form can be required.

The plotted line does not necessarily pass through the origin or any particular point for no single point is more significant than any other point.

The lines with no points represent the ideal measurements.
The lines with points represent the different typical errors.
Vertical axis is tangent to the heeling angle ( negative to port side ).
Horisontal axis is the moment ( below axis, moment to port side ).

Steady wind pressure from port side or Gust wind from port side have influenced
unsymmetrical heeling. the measurements ( see triangles ).
Danish Maritime Authority Page 7

Guidelines to the inclining test.

1. The ship must be at even keel to avoid unsymmetrical heeling.

2. All essiential tanks must be empty or full.
3. Use e.g. four weights with an initial position as shown at the outline below.
4. When all weights are placed in the same side, the heeling must be between 2 and 4 deg.
5. Adjust the lenght of the pendulum such the deflection during maximum heeling is
approximate 150 mm.
6. Place e.g. the mooring lines as shown below.
