Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Using Student Response tools addresses UDL principles of engagement, representation, and expression
through the mode the teacher presents the lesson. Accessibility to all learners by: enlarging the text, turning
on closed caption, and by using visuals and auditory videos and interactives. Addressing each style of learning
will keep the students engage and motivated about finishing the lesson. Student Response tools are more fun
than normal question and answer worksheets. They provide fun inactive games that promote learning from
all students through healthy competition.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Over the weekend the students will review the Number Everywhere movie that I created to get them
prepared for the lesson. The students will review the Numbers Everywhere PowerPoint with their Math
partners. The student response activity will be implement in the wrapping up portion of the lesson. I will give
instant feedback at that time, then the differienate groups will be made and in effect for tomorrow’s class.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: The students will BTOD and participate in the
Socrative activity and have discussions as they go through the activity

☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? For the students to self-correct.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

The students will do manipulative learning stations. For more practice and review.

How will the data be used?

The data will be used to formatively assess student’s comprehension of the objective. I will collect the
answers and look at the wording. The data will be to place students in groups to collaborate with one another
and some with me or a paraprofessional. The information will also be used to monitor the student’s progress
with student and parental involvement.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

I have not tried any student response tools. Allowing students to learn through play gives a connection to my
preschool world, where learning through play is the best practice.

Reflective Practice:
After completing this lesson idea, I feel empowered by the ISTE standards and I feel that I can retain my
student’s attention and motivation through this lesson because there are many avenues in which they will
benefit while learning the content.
