A UNIQUE ANTIMICROBIAL TECHNOLOGY

Antimicrobial, Disinfectant, Biocide, Sterilant,

Biostatic and Odor Eliminator

SANIGUARD-7500

SANIGUARD-7500 is patented and EPA registered to inhibit the growth of fungi and bacteria.

SANIGUARD-7500 is based on advanced silane chemistry : the organosilane technology is proven to be very effective,
following 30 years of development.

Traditional antimicrobials provide short-term kill of microorganisms. Unlike disinfectants, sanitizers and bleaches, the
water based SANIGUARD-7500 forms a molecular bond to surfaces.

The molecule disrupts the cell membranes of harmful fungi and bacteria, inhibiting, reducing and providing long-term,
residual kill.

SANIGUARD-7500 can produce a durable, non-migrating antimicrobial finish to a wide range of textiles.

SANIGUARD-7500 can form an invisible and durable micro-biostatic coating on a broad range of hard surfaces.

The physical, rather than chemical, mode of action of SANIGUARD-7500 does not affect normal skin flora, does not lose
strength with use and does not promote adaptative organisms (super bugs)

Longer lasting, more effective, versatile, non-toxic and save

SANIGUARD-7500 : Mode of action

Part I
The first part of the molecule is the silane base. This silane base is the antimicrobial anchor. The antimicrobial is anchored by covalent bonds which are
formed gradually through hydrolysis reactions that bond the antimicrobial permanently to almost any surfaces and allow for crosslinking and
polymerisation with other molecules.

Part II
The second part of the molecule is the centrally located positively charged nitrogen. It plays an important role in the active nature of the antimicrobial. Some
membranes of microbes are negatively charged; when in close proximity, the microbes are drawn into the active surface of the antimicrobial and killed.

Part III
The third segment is the edge that leads to blow in the offending microbes. This long molecular chain acts like a sword that punctures the cell membranes of
all microbes coming in contact with it.
Per

Summary
When the antimicrobial is bonded to the surface of an object, it is ready for defense.

As the microbes come into contact with the “antimicrobial” surface, they are first punctured by the long molecular chain.
The “positive-negative” attraction in between the positively charged nitrogen and the negative cell membrane draw the microorganism even further down
on the sword.
This modified cell can end the life of a microbe but the end point is the contact between the negative and the positive charges : the cell membrane is
electrocuted and blown apart delivering inescapable kill
In addition, since this process transfers nothing from the antimicrobial to the cell, the antimicrobial stands ready for the next “wave” and can continue to
work at full strength and definitely.

SANIGUARD-7500 – Bonding Mechanism

Applied in a single stage of the wet finish process, the attachment of SANIGUARD-7500 to surfaces involves two means.

First and the most important is a very rapid process, which coats the substrate (fabric, fiber, etc), with the cationic species (physics sorption) one molecule
deep. This is an ion exchange process by which the cation of the silane quaternary ammonium compound replaces protons from water or chemicals on the
surface.

The second mechanism is unique to materials such as silane quarternary ammonium compounds. In this case, the silanol allows for covalent bonding to
receptive surfaces to occur (chemisorptions). This bonding is then made even more durable by the silanol functionality, which enables them to
homopolymerize. After they have coated the surface in this manner, they become virtually irremovable, even on surfaces with which they cannot react
covalently.

BY EXHAUSTION
USE LEVEL :
Depending on the warranty you want to put on the garment or fabric : 1 to 3% of SANIGUARD-7500 (on the weight of fabric)
The use of 2-3% gives a reduction rate of 99,99 % after 75 washes. An application of 1-2% will still give a reduction rate of 90 %.
1. Prior to addition of SANIGUARD-7500 the fabric should be free of any impurities from other treatments such as Dyeing.

2. Since Alkalinity may prohibit SANIGUARD-7500 from attaching to fabric the PH of the fabric should be less than 6.0. For optimum
exhaustion we recommend PH 4.5-5.5. Set PH with either Acetic or Citric Acid. If the PH is too high the fabric will yellow.

3. Set temperature at 40° - 50°C.

4. Pre mix the SANIGUARD-7500 by carefully adding to warm water (25° - 30°C.) Blend for 10 minutes to assure SANIGUARD-7500 is
adequately dispersed in water.
5. Add to the dyeing machine and hold temperature at 40° - 50°C for 15-20 minutes to provide adequate time for exhaustion. At the end of the
cycle drop the bath. No rinsing is required.

6. Fabric can then be dried according to conventional methods. To have a good polymerization the substrate must be completely dry, all the
water must be removed. Temperatures between 100°C and maximum 210°C can be used.

NOTE: SANIGUARD-7500 can be exhausted on in the softener bath. Compatibility with Softeners should be checked prior to incorporation
into the recipe.
BY PADDING

USE LEVEL :
Depending on the warranty you want to put on the garment or fabric : 10-30 g/l of SANIGUARD-7500 (based on a 100% pick-up)

The use of 10-30 g/l (pick-up 100%) gives a reduction rate of 99,99 % after 75 washes. An application of 10-20 g/l (100% pick-up) will still give a
reduction rate of 90 %.

1. Fabric should be previously scoured and/or dyed and neutralized. Alkalinity may prohibit SANIGUARD-7500 from attaching to fabric.
pH of fabric should be less than 6.0 to aid Fixation and avoid yellowing of the fabric.

2. Determine an accurate wet pick up. It is preferable that fabric be padded wet on dry. However, if wet on wet finishing is necessary, it is
imperative than that an accurate exchange rate will be calculated to effect enough SANIGUARD-7500 to the fabric.

3. Make up solution of SANIGUARD-7500 as above in header or side tank near pad. Add solution to pad and run fabric through pad.

4. Check a wet pick up during run to assure correct amount of SANIGUARD-7500 is being adsorbed on to fabric.

5. Fabric can be dried according to conventional methods. To have a good polymerization the substrate must be completely dry, all the water
must be removed. Temperatures between 100°C and maximum 210°C can be used.

NOTE: SANIGUARD-7500 can be padded on in the softener bath. Check compatibility with SANIGUARD-7500 prior to incorporating in to
the recipe.

SOME KEY FACTORS

1. ANALYSIS OF APPLICATION OF SANIGUARD-7500

Correct Application of SANIGUARD-7500 can be checked by two means.

1. Bromophenol. Blue indicator-indicates the presence of SANIGUARD-7500 by a blue cast. If no SANIGUARD-7500 is present, no color will
form.
2. Phydron quaternary Test Strips QT-10 theses strips indicate the presence of a quaternary compound. These can be used to determine the
effectiveness of the bath treatment. Use them as you would pH paper and read the amount of quaternary compound, if any that has been left in
the bath.
2. TO PREVENT YELLOWING OF THE FABRICS WHERE SANIGUARD-7500 IS USED
To prevent the discoloration or yellowing of fabrics it is necessary to control the pH of the bath. Alkalinity may prohibit SANIGUARD-7500
from attaching to fabric. PH of fabric should be 4.5- 5.5 to aid exhaustion. Different Acids solution can be used for this process. The most
common used are:
• Acetic Acid
• Citric Acid

3. FABRIC SHOULD BE CLEAN AND SHOULD BE FREE OF ANY IMPURITIES FROM OTHER TREATMENTS

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION SANIGUARD-7500 binds strongly (molecularly) to the fabric and by applying the indicated
quantities an exhaustion or pick-up from 80 – 95% will be achieved. The amount of SANIGUARD-7500 left in the bath after the process is a
really very low ppm (below the LD 500). So, the rest bath, after processing, will not affect the sewage or if it goes to a processing plant will not
affect the flora used to treat waters

In case of a spill or a release directly to the sewage pipe the amount of SANIGUARD-7500 can be deactivated or destroyed by adding the same
amount of an anionic surfactant or an anionic detergent.

REGULATORY INFORMATION The active molecule used in SANIGUARD-7500 is registered in the United States by the EPA, FDA &
USDA and this molecule is also listed in European inventory : EINECS – CAS.

This water-stabilized organosilane compound is patented in the US since 1999.
