9A 25th Edition I.3.4.2 9A-I-01/08 Question: In API 9A, Section I.3.4.2, the second paragraph states: “For The term “shaped strands” refers to Item d, all of the above.
Feb. 2004 ropes with shaped strands with more than one layer of round wires in
the strands, the values resulting from the above for round strands shall
be reduced by one torsion each.”

Does the term "shaped strands" refer to:

a. triangular strands as produced with round wires for flattened strand


ropes only;

b. ropes made with compacted strands (several of our ropes are


produced with compacted strands made with round wires where the
outer wires of the strands are flattened while the inner wires stay round);

c. locked coil types of ropes;

d. or, all of the above?
