COURSE DESCRIPTION:
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The instructional content of Orthodontics IV is designed to
prepare the student of Dental Technology to fabricate removable and fixed orthodontics
appliances using basic and advanced techniques. Various Orthodontic appliances will be
fabricated during the course.

As mandated by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities essential employability

COURSE OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of this course the students will have reliably demonstrated the
ability to:

1. Apply knowledge of the oral anatomy of the edentulous mouth to complete denture
fabrication.
2. Demonstrate the uses of orthodontic materials in the fabrication of appliances.
3. Perform skills needed to fabricate advanced orthodontic appliances.

TESTING POLICY:
Students will not be admitted to a test 15 minutes after the test has begun. If a student misses a
test due to illness, the student must notify the professor within 24 hours by email. Failure to
notify the professor will result in a mark of “0” for that test. The professor will reschedule the
test as soon as possible and will notify the student by email. Students must use their George
Brown College email address and course code DENT3012 when communicating with the
professor and coordinator. Alternate email addresses may be blocked. The format and questions
for the rescheduled test will not be the same as the missed test. The maximum attainable grade
on a missed test is the minimum passing grade for the course, which is 60%. Extenuating
circumstances may be reviewed by the Promotion Committee at the end of the semester.
Special needs students are to notify the professor prior to the test. Testing time must coincide
with the class test time. Students must follow the policies of George Brown College Assessment
Centre when scheduling a test.
Tests will be reviewed in class, handed back, mark recorded, then shredded.

ASSIGNMENT POLICY:
All assignments must be handed in within the first 15 minutes of class. All assignments and due
dates are listed in the topical outline. Any late assignments will not be marked and a grade of
“0” will be assigned.

EVALUATION SYSTEM:
Participation: To successfully participate in this course you must attend a minimum of 80% of
the classes.
Laboratory: The fabrication of preliminary models, master models, occlusal rims, custom
trays, quizzes, practical tests and the construction of dentures to a try-in and finish stage must be
completed according to the expected, stated standards, and to a satisfactory standing of each
assignment.
Classroom Conduct: Any student not adhering to these rules will be asked to leave the class.
1. Lab coats are to be worn in class at all times. Hats are not permitted.
2. Appropriate professional decorum will be displayed at all times during class.
3. No cell phones will be permitted during class.
