Briefly describe the baseline activity that all the students will be doing:
Students will read and translate Gemara Bava Batra and Rashi’s comment. They will follow
guiding questions and answer them either as they study or after they have finished studying the
texts to demonstrate comprehension of the text.
How will you scaffold to support weaker students? The text appears in more
broken down, organized form for weaker students to better receive it. An almost
word-by-word word bank is provided to guide students very smoothly as they independently
navigate through the text. Each question is color-coded to match its answer found in the text,
guiding students to the answer and, of equal importance, forcing them to work through the text
again.
How will you stretch the learning so that stronger students are enriched and
challenged? The hebrew text is provided on its own with no word bank. An exciting
“challenge meforesh” is provided to keep stronger students stimulated and further enriched.
The Gemara is challenging enough to keep students busy, but just familiar enough to work
with since we learned select pieces of it it together already in our Haftarat Taanit Tzibur unit.
Stronger students are used to this “challenge meforesh” opportunity in my class. I will teach
the challenge Gemara outside to the class in the next lesson and pull from the stronger students
to help explain its meaning and message.
