Selection Tools
on Menu: Select>

1. Nodes cursor, beams cursor, Geometry cursors etc.


To select Nodes only, Beam only, All elements, etc
respectively.

2. Selection Cursor:
Based on the predefined selection mode it will select the
elements
To set the selection mode
Select > Configure selection filter

3. Load Edit Cursor, Support Edit Cursor and Release Edit


Cursor
Use this cursor and double click on the
Load/Support/Repease to edit the values.

4. Beams Parallel to X/Y/Z


To select beams parallel to the relevant Global Axis

Plates Parallel to XY/YZ/XZ


To select plates parallel to the relevant Global Plane

5. By Range
Based on the currently active cursor ( nodes cursor, beams
cursor etc) it will select the elements within a volume defined
by the plane and axis range
e.g. XY... in the range of Z=1 to 10

To create a group
1. Select the elements
2. Menu: Tools > Create New Group
6. By group name
If element groups are defined in the model, the For first time:

7. Entity at Node
Based on the node number its connected elements can be selected.

Similarly Entity Connects beam, etc can be used to select the beams that are connected
to the selected beam number.

8. By All
To select all elements by its category ( all beams, all nodes etc.)

9. By Inverse
Selects the elements that are not selected already.

10. By List
used to select the elements by its element number
Ranges can be defined as:e.g.
1 to 10, 15 , 16 , 25 to 30 --->
to select element from 1 to 10 , 15 and 16, and 25 to 20

11. By specification
To select elements based on the "Specification" that are
assigned to them.

Tension only members, moment releases,...

12. By Missing attributes


To select elements that are not assigned with relevant properties.

13. Highlight entities sequentially


To sequentially highlight the elements automatically.

Managing Views

2.1 New View


This is used to set a new view from the current selection.

View > New View


use the option "Display the view in the active window"
OK

Tip:
By creating a "new view" with fewer elements the PC performance will be good.

2.2. Save View


This is used to save the current view so that it can be retrieved later.
Note: The View information is not saved in the staad main command file (.std); it
is saved in a separate file.

View > View Management > Save View

To retrieve View
View > Open View

To return back to the entire structure view


View > whole structure

To open an saved view


View > Open
