Curriculum

Curriculum Description: This curriculum is based on children narratives about the ocean. It is

designed to allow children shared their stories, and learn from others. This curriculum will

trigger them to think about the environment at the same time work as a team. Sharing stories,

ideas, and coming up with solutions as a team will create democracy amount the children. This

will also help children to learn from others and find common ground amount other peers of

different ethnic, socio-economic, beliefs, and cultural background. The goal is to create agents of

social change at the same learning how to save the environment.

Curriculum appropriate ages: This curriculum is designed for students in second grade to third

grade. This curriculum is designed for children age’s seven to nine. It is designed to develop

critical thinking, and help students be very observant of their environment.

Step one Prompt:

Children will prompted to answer a question first:

What is your Favorite ocean animal?

Step 2: Base on their narrative the conversation will be develop around this topic. Them the

instructor will educate the students about ocean preservation and the importance of it, and how

we can preserve our planet if we work as a team.

Step 3: Then students will share their stories about the ocean with other students.

Step 4: Student will be prompt to come out with ways of preserving the environment base on

their narratives. A time will be given to come out with at least 2 solutions based on what they

learn from the teaching and utilizing other student’s narratives as a foundation for these

solutions.
Curriculum Project 3

Step 5: Students will sit in a circle where everyone will share their narratives and share solutions

about how to save the environment. They will prompted to find practical solutions amount

themselves and work as a team. They will learn that although we all come from different

backgrounds we all live in the same planet, and we all shared the same planet. We should all

work together as a team to preserve this planet.

Social Justice Activities

1) The curriculum will culminate with a field trip to the park, and to the beach. Students will

prompt to utilize some of the ideas and solutions from the classroom. They be will pair in

groups, and will be prompted to work together as a team.

2) Students will be engaged in picking trash at the park. Working as a team helping each other

out in this activity.

3) Students will be working together in a recycling program during this field trip. Gathering

ideas to bring home about recycling. They will also be prompted to create a recycling program at

their school. Working as a team will be the key point in this activity.

4) Students will be prompted to reflect on the activity. Students will be answering questions

about working as a team.

5) Student will be given a lesson about having work with other children of different background,

and the importance of preserving the environment.

Curriculum Culmination: Students will reflect in the activity. Students will sit in a circle and

share their experience. Students will be prompted to answer two questions.
