Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

1. Question and Answer

Why do road accidents happen? Are the majority of

accidents in Malaysia caused by the careless driver or are
they caused by something that the driver cannot
control? Studies by the Road Transport Department
show that more than 90 per cent of accidents are caused
by the carelessness of the driver.
Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

2. Use newspaper headlines

Four killed in car-bus collision

Six die as car plunges into ravine
Baby killed, two injured in crash

Not a single day passes without headlines like these

appearing in our newspapers. Our newspapers are filled
with road accidents statistics and fatalities. Efforts are
being taken by the authorities to reduce the number of
accidents.
Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

3. Use dialogue

“I bet I can ride faster than you”, said Mat to his friend,
Harris.
“Okay. I’ll race you to the bridge. Whoever gets there
first is the winner”, replied Harris.
The stupidity of the situation hits us. It is a race without
cause. It is a blind challenge. It shows immaturity on
the part of the boys. Adults too, are caught in same
situations. Instead of saying “no”, they give in to such
challenges. Such negative mentality should be erased in
the minds of drivers to reduce road accidents.
Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

4. Give an opinion

Malaysian drivers are selfish and inconsiderate. They do

not care about road safety. Once they are on the road,
they break every traffic rule, they speed and behave like
kings of the road.
Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

5. Give a quotation

“It saddens me to see that the number of road accidents

in constantly on the rise. Each year sees an increase in
the number of accidents especially during the festive
season.” These are the words of our Prime Minister,
Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Topic: Road Accidents in Malaysia

6. State a fact about the topic

The number of accidents is constantly on the rise. From

a mere 73,250 accidents in 2009, the number of
accidents has increased to 215,987 in 2013. This almost
three-fold increase in the number of accidents is
shocking. It calls for urgent measures.
