In both male and female, the lateral head of rectus abdominis has the following attachments;

Origin

• The lateral head of rectus abdominis arises from the pubic crest and extends onto the
pecten pubis.

Insertion

• It inserts onto the anterior surface of the xiphoid process and onto the fifth to seventh
costal cartilages.
