7 Wonders of the Ancient World

Travel Brochure
GRASPS:
Goal: Your goal is to design a travel brochure for one of the 7
Wonders of the Ancient World. In doing so you will gain a greater
understanding of the Wonder you chose and the people who built it.

Role: You are a travel agent. Business has been slow lately and so
you need to prepare harder for the upcoming summer vacation
months. Your boss suggested some new travel destinations:

Audience: People who come to your office seeking a relaxing, yet

adventurous vacation.

Situation: Choose One:

1. The Great Pyramid of Giza. It is the oldest, yet it is the

only surviving of
the Seven Ancient Wonders.

2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Fruits and flowers,

waterfalls, gardens
hanging from the palace terraces, exotic animals.

3. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia. This is the statue of the

god in whose
honor the Ancient Olympic games were held.

4. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. It was not just a

temple, it was the
most beautiful structure on earth.

5. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The burial site of an

ancient king, it was
the beauty of the tomb, rather than its size, that fascinated
its visitors for
years.

6. The Colossus of Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes was

not just a gigantic
statue. Rather, it was a symbol of unity of the people who
inhabited the
beautiful Mediterranean island of Rhodes.

7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria. For sailors, it ensured a

safe return to the
Great Harbor. For architects, it meant even more: it was
the tallest
building on earth. And for scientists, it was the mysterious
mirror that
fascinated them the most.

Performance: You will choose one of the 7 Wonders to investigate. Your final
task will be to create a travel brochure for the Wonder you chose. Your
brochure should include the answer to the following questions:

1. Who built the Wonder?

2. What is it? (include dimensions, descriptions of what it looked like)

3. When was it built?

4. Where was it built?

5. Why was it built?/ What was it built for?

6. How was it built? (include materials used)

8. Explain how this historical site is important to world history.

FEEL FREE TO ADD EXTRA INFORMATION!!!

The more facts you include the better your grade will be.
