Funded by the Kingdom of Bahrain, the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize was
established in 2005 to recognize innovations in teaching and learning that leverage technology to
improve educational outcomes.
The theme for the 2018 edition of the Prize is the use of innovative Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT) to ensure education for vulnerable groups.
This year’s Prize focuses on leveraging innovative ICT to deliver quality education for vulnerable
groups, including out-of-school children, non-literate or under-skilled youth and adults impeded
by social, cultural and economic barriers, personal disabilities, gender inequalities and/or crisis-
affected situations. Special attention will be given to projects that use integrated ICT solutions
that blend commonly used technology with frontier ICT applications, such as breakthrough
technology to overcome electricity or other infrastructure barriers, solutions to reduce the cost of
access, online learning innovations, intelligent learning management systems, machine
translation, big data, and imagery technology.
National Commissions for UNESCO and NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO are invited to
nominate up to three candidates each.
Two prizewinners shall be designated by UNESCO's Director-General on the basis of the
recommendations of an international jury. Each winner will receive a monetary award of USD
25,000.
Financé par le Royaume de Bahreïn, le Prix UNESCO-Roi Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa a été créé en
2005 afin de récompenser les innovations qui, dans le domaine de l'enseignement et de
l'apprentissage, emploient la technologie pour améliorer les performances éducatives.
Le thème de l'édition 2018 du Prix est l'utilisation des technologies de l'information et de Ia
communication innovantes pour assurer l'éducation des groupes vulnérables.
Le Prix récompensera l’utilisation des TIC innovantes qui rendent accessible un enseignement
de qualité aux groupes vulnérables : enfants non-scolarisés, jeunes et adultes analphabètes ou
sous-qualifiés, entravés par des obstacles socio-culturels ou économiques, des inégalités de
genre, des handicaps et/ou des situations de crise. Une attention particulière sera portée aux
projets qui utilisent des solutions intégrées des TIC et mêlent des technologies couramment
utilisées aux applications des TIC de pointe : par exemple, des technologies pour surmonter
l’insuffisance des infrastructures, pour réduire le coût d'accès, des innovations dans
l’apprentissage en ligne, des systèmes intelligents de gestion de l'apprentissage, la traduction
automatique, des mégadonnées (« big data »), et des technologies de l'imagerie.
Les commissions nationales pour l’UNESCO et les ONG partenaires officielles de l'UNESCO
pourront nominer jusqu'à 3 candidats.
Sur les recommandations d'un jury international, la Directrice générale désignera deux lauréats.
À chacun de ses lauréats sera attribuée une récompense financière de 25 000 dollars
