Chapter 14 Assessment of Classroom Learning Lesson Plan

I.Today’s lesson is for the students in Edu 220-2001 Principles of Educational Psychology. There are
about 15 students in this class depending on the day. Most are education majors and are taking this
class in order to obtain an Associate degree in education. To my knowledge there are no students
with special needs nor are there students who are gifted. I am not aware of the students who are
second language learners. Majority of the students range in age from 19 to 35 and up.

II.Today’s lesson will cover Chapter 14, sections 1, 1a and 1b on Assessment of Classroom
Learning. I will cover topics on the role of assessment in teaching, what is assessment and why
should we assess students’ learning

III. Objective(s)
After reviewing sections 14-1, 14-1a & 14-1b students will be able to understand and explain the
various purposes of assessment and the kinds of evaluative judgements that derive from each
purpose through discussion, assessment quiz and group work. This will be done with 80% accuracy.

IV. Procedures:
1. I will present the information thoroughly through a power point.
2. Students should be familiar with the chapter from doing independent reading.
3. Modeling: Through my power point I will discuss the importance of student learning assessment
4. Conducting Learning Probes/Guided Practice: I will engage students by using examples, I know
they are familiar with to reiterate the power point lesson plan. After students review the handout I
have passed out, they will discuss amongst their group the characteristics of Formative and
Summative Assessment. After the group discussions I will lead a guided class discussion.
5. Independent Student Practice: Students will take a kahoot quiz to assess their knowledge and
comprehension of chapter 14 sections 1, 1a and 1b.

V. Materials:
1. Power Point of chapter 14 information
2. Characteristics of Summative and Formative Assessment handout
3. Kahoot Quiz
4. Cell phones to take the quiz

VI. Grouping Structures:

Students will be grouped into four groups of three to discuss handout

VII. Modifications:
I did not need to make any modifications for the students in this class.

VIII. Assessment:
After the lesson is given and students have gotten into their groups to discuss the different
characteristics of summative and formative assessment, a kahoot quiz will be given. The quiz
will test their knowledge and comprehension of the lesson given by power point as well as the
material covered on the handout. I expect the students to grasp the material at 80% mastery.
