1. In current time, due to increase in import & market share of Chinese
goods, the production has plunged from 150000 to 30000 per day by Indian
wall clock industry.1

2. Due to the implementation and increase in ‘VAT’, the numbers of wall


clock manufacturing units are being shut down.2

3. Samay Electronics Pvt. Ltd. (SEPL) produces Musical, Wooden, Office,


Deluxe, Regular & economic range in more than 165 different models &
highly attractive colors & designed wall clocks. 3

4. ‘Ajanta Group Of Company’ is world’s largest wall clock manufacturing


company better known by it’s brand name ‘Orpat’.4

5. The total market for clocks is growing at a rat of 13-15%.

6. In quantitative terms, the bulk of the demand exists in the lower and

7. Famous Japanese watchmaker company ‘CITIZEN’, identified the


opportunities in the premium wall clock segment in India & started their
own units in India manufacturing wall clock named ‘Citizen Watches(India)
Pvt. Ltd.’ In 1997.7

8. Ajanta-Orpat inked an MoU with United Metal Tek of Hangzhou to set


up a project in Morbi at a cost of Rs. 100 crores.8

9. Ajanta was the first to introduce Musical clocks & Scores of models in

10. The major players of Indian wall clock industry are ‘Ajanta’, ‘Samay’,
‘Citizen’, etc.10

11. Wall clock industry contributed 5% to 9% in employment produce by


SSI in a year 2007-08.11

12. The name of wall clock was removed from the reserved items for SSI at
the time of new economic reform, as a result the wall clock industry has
been developing at a good rate.12
