4.

Activities
The Students Council Committee shall organize a wide spectrum of activities
throughout the year, under each of the verticals mentioned in the preceding chapters of
this Constitution. These activities could be at three broad levels, namely:
(1) Intra-Institute Level:
(a) Intra-Hostel,
(b) Inter-Hostel; &
(c) Institute Open;
(2) Imphal City Level:
(a) Inter-Collegiate; and
(3) National Level:
(a) Inter-Collegiate; &
(b) Inter-MTU.
The names of some of these events hosted by the Students Council shall be as listed in
Table 4.1.

The role of the Students Regatta shall be limited largely to the Intra-Institute Level
events only, in terms of:
(a) Organizing, participating in and nurturing all Intra-Hostel activities,
(b) Participating in and nurturing all Inter-Hostel activities, and
(c) Participating in and nurturing all Institute Open activities.

4.1 INTRA-INSTITUTE LEVEL ACTIVITIES


The Intra-Institute activities shall be organized by the respective societies under
the broad leadership of the General Secretary of Students Council, and in association with
the Secretaries of the Students Council.

4.1.1 Intra-Hostel Activities
These activities shall be on all themes, but with a sense of friendly competition
between the residents of each hostel, with winning the Annual General Championship of
Intra-Hostel Activities being the ultimate goal, as well as identifying the hostel teams and
players for the Inter-Hostel and Institute Open activities. The Intra-Institute Activities shall
be organized by the respective Hostel Societies. Therefore, the broad leadership is critical
of the Hostel Secretaries of the various societies under the Students Regatta of each hostel.

4.1.2 Inter-Hostel Activities


These activities shall be on all themes, but with a sense of friendly competition
between the hostels, with winning the Annual General Championship of Inter-Hostel
Activities being the ultimate goal, as well as identifying the Institute Teams and Institute
Players & Performers, who can represent MTU Imphal at the Inter-MTU and other national
and international level competitions. The Intra-Institute activities shall be organized by
the Students Council in association with the Students Regattas of all Hostels. Therefore, the
broad leadership is critical of the Hostel General Secretaries of Students Regattas of all
hostels, along with those of the Secretaries of the Students Council.

4.1.3 Institute Open Activities


These activities shall be on all themes, but with a purpose of identifying the best
Institute Players and Performers, who can represent MTU Imphal at the Inter-MTU and
other national and international level competitions. The Institute Open activities shall be
organized by the respective Societies. Therefore, the broad leadership is critical of the
Secretaries of the Students Council, along with those of the Hostel Secretaries of the Students
Regattas of all Hostels.

4.2 IMPHAL CITY LEVEL ACTIVITIES


Students of MTU Imphal can participate in select Inter-Collegiate competitions
hosted by Colleges, Institutes and Universities in the city of Imphal. Also, the Students
Council may be permitted host select activities for teams from Colleges, Institutes and
Universities of the City of Imphal. The list of competitions that students of MTU Imphal
wish to participate in or organize each year shall be proposed by the General Secretary of
Students Council to the Dean (Students) in consultation with the respective Advisors of the
various Societies of the Students Council; on the recommendation of the Dean (Students),
the decision on the matter will be given by the Vice chancellor. This list shall be finalized
in the month of June each year. In the unforeseen circumstance of students of MTU
Imphal wish to participate in a new event or organize one, the same procedure will be
followed.
4.3 NATIONAL LEVEL ACTIVITIES
Students of MTU Imphal can participate in select Inter-Collegiate competitions
hosted by Colleges, Institutes and Universities across the country. Also, the Students Council
can host select activities for teams from Colleges, Institutes and Universities across the
country. The list of competitions that students of MTU Imphal wish to participate in or
organize each year shall be proposed by the General Secretary of Students Council to the
Dean (Students) in consultation with the respective Advisors of the various Societies of the
Students Council; the decision on the matter will be given by the Vice chancellor. This list
shall be finalized in the month of June each year.

4.3.1 Student Festivals


The National Level events permitted to be hosted by the Institute, hereinafter called
Student Festivals, shall be organized by the Students Council with all formalisms and in a
manner befitting the dignity of the Institute. Each such Festival shall be organized by a
Festival Chief!

The Festival Chief shall be selected through an interview; the Festival Chief Interview
Committee shall consist of:
(1) Chairman – Dean (Students);
(2) Convener – General Secretary, Students Council; and
(3) Member – Secretary, Students Council, of the Society under which the Festival is
being organized; and
(4) Member – the outgoing Festival Chief of the same Festival held in the previous
academic year.
Each Festival Chief shall work under the close supervision of the Secretary of the associated
Society of the Students Council, and overall supervision of the General Secretary of the
Students Council.

The General Secretary of Students Council shall call for nominations on 15 March of
each year` for the posts of Festival Chiefs of the various national level festivals to be
organized in the upcoming year under the six societies. In case no nomination is received
for any post, the General Secretary in consultation with the Secretary of the associated
Society shall nominate one person from amongst the Student Body, who is not holding any
post and who has past experience of having organized such activities at the Imphal City
Level or at the Institute Level. The Festival Chief Interview Committee shall meet the Nominee
and determine her/his suitability for the post. In case of a dispute, the matter shall be
placed before the Vice chancellor for the final decision on the matter; the decision of the
Vice chancellor shall be binding on the Students Council.

Each Festival Chief shall choose her/his team from amongst the Student Body, who
are not holding any post and who have been closely associated with the annual activities
of the respective society in the past experience. In case of a dispute, the matter shall be
placed before the Dean (Students) for the final decision on the matter; the decision of the
Dean (Students) shall be binding on the Students Council.
The Imphal City Level and Intra-Institute Level events permitted to be hosted by the
Institute, shall be organized by the Students Council with all formalisms and in a manner
befitting the dignity of the Institute. Each such Festival shall be organized by Secretary of
the Society of the Students Council, under the general guidance of the General Secretary of
the Students Council. No new team shall be formed; existing members of the Societies at
the Institute and Hostel Levels shall constitute the organizing team for such festivals.
