COW CODES
A1 Minimum Marpol. Maximum possible safe trim for stripping tanks and lines. Strip all tanks at least three times
A2 Minimum Marpol plus a bottom wash of remaining tanks.
A3 Full wash
A4 Minimum Marpol plus a full wash of remaining wing tanks and a bottom wash of remaining centre tanks.
A5 No COW, except with cutter stock such as heated gas oil. Otherwise treat as fuel oil, with maximum possible safe trim for stripping.
A6 Cargoes are small, generally carried in Product Tankers, and treated in the same way as Fuel Oil
A7 Minimum Marpol plus a bottom wash of remaining cargo tanks, using the contents of the slop tanks which should be at least 10degC higher
than the cargo carried in the cargo tanks.
A8 Full wash, using the contents of the slop tanks which should be at least 10degC higher than the cargo carried in the cargo tanks.
A9 IN TROPICAL AREAS ONLY - Bottom wash of all tanks., otherwise follow COW code A5
B1 Minimum Marpol. Maximum possible safe trim for stripping tanks and lines. Strip all tanks at least three times.
B2 Minimum Marpol plus a bottom wash of remaining tanks
B3 Full wash
B4 Full wash required for wings tanks and bottom wash for centre tanks
B5 No COW, except with cutter stock such as heated gas oil. Otherwise treat as fuel oil with maximum safe trim for stripping.
B6 Cargoes are small, generally carried on product carriers, and treated in the same way as Fuel Oil
B7 Bottom wash required, using the contents of the slop tanks the contents of which should be at least 10degC higher than the cargo carried
in the cargo tanks.
B8 Full wash, using the contents of the slop tanks which should be at least 10degC higher than the cargo carried in the cargo tanks
B9 IN TROPICAL AREAS ONLY - Bottom wash of all tanks, otherwise follow COW code B5.
a) Min Marpol requirements are basically in place for sludge control purposes and to reduce oil pollution through COWing
Heavy weather ballast tanks.
b) Account is taken of the ship's trading pattern and the expected weather so that additional ballast water is not put into cargo tanks
which have not been crude oil washed - In effect this means that the ship is entitled to COW his heavy weather ballast tanks every time,
Page 33
COW Codes
it would be difficult to argue against a ship doing this every time, typically they will be COWing one or two tanks dependent on ship design.
c) In addition to the above approximatelly one quarter of all remaining tanks shall be crude oil washed for sludge control on a rotational basis,
all tanks must be completed over a 1 year period.
These additional tanks may include the tanks reffered to in b) above. However, for sludge control purposes, no tank need be COWed more
than once in every four months.
Minimum Marpol Wash = 25% of the cargo tanks COW'd every time (Though with the wording of Marpol the ship owner could
argue that 25% of the tanks plus the heavy weather ballast tanks require washing every time)

CRUDE OILS
Updated 09/2006
Debno Before loading, deballast entirely from the tanks adjacent to the cargo tanks in loading sequence. Start loading to a minimum number of tanks. Apply
maximum heating immediately to the cargo. For each set of tanks loaded, deballast first, then load. Apply full heating during loading, voyage and
discharge. Max temp 25C.
At discharge, only ballast tanks once the adjacent cargo tanks have been fully discharged and stripped. No COW. Maximum
possible safe trim for stripping tanks and lines. Strip all tanks at least three times.
Karachaganak Cond.*** Circulate cargo using the forward drop line where possible

EUC CHANGE LOG
Guidance
1. The change log (attached below) captures all changes made to the spreadsheet and ensures that changes are properly tested, reviewed and signed off.
2. Any changes to the spreadsheet which are not part of the usual periodic processing should be included in the change log. E.g. formula changes, addition of columns, addition/deletion of worksheets, etc.
3. The columns in the change log are explained below:
Column Description
Change ID Each change must have a unique Change ID.
Date of Approval Date on which the approving manager approved the change.
Independent Review Name of the individual who reviewed the logic and integrity of the EUC file and its interface with the system of financial record (must
Performed by be independent of the "Implementer").
Independent Review Confirmation of the result of the independent review (Pass / Fail).
Result
Independent Review Date of the independent review.
Date
Date Change made Date on which the change was rolled out into the live EUC file. This date should be after the independent review.
EUC Version Version number of the EUC file. This should be incremented after each change is made to provide version control.
NOTE: This log should also be used to capture periodic or baseline reviews conducted on this spreadsheet.
