1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORKS

This method statement aim to provide information about the demolition works of the existing intake
structure and the construction of the new structure to be undertaken.

3. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT

6. METHOD STATEMENT

This method statement aims to describe the work procedure and methods to be adopted in the demolition
of the existing structure and the construction of the new intake structure.

7. SURVEY AND INSPECTION

A team of divers will go down under water to do the survey and inspection of thickness of silt and
debris to be remove at intake structure estimated 20 meters long.

8. SANDBAGGING AND OR CONCRETE BLOCKS PROTECTION

Concrete with filter cloth and sandbags will be installed to prevent inflow of silt during removal
and construction of intake gate. Two layers of precast concrete blocks will be place about to 1.5
– 1.8m then followed by the stacking of sandbags up to 20 cm high to serve as barrier.

9. INSTALLATION OF FILTER CLOTH (TURBIDITY CURTAIN)

Prior to start of demolition works a filter cloth shall be installed in line with the steel frame in a location as
shown in the photo to control the turbidity of water.

The turbidity curtain shall consist of steel frame, fish net and filter cloth capable of withstanding fast moving
waves. The turbidity curtain shall be clean at least twice a week or as necessary when the rate of flow through
the channel had been reduced.

10. DEMOLITION OF EXISTING SLAB AND CONCRETE POST

Starting at the first segment, steel railings and screen shall be carefully removed and all precaution shall be
employed to avoid breakage. Mark the surface of the existing slab to be demolish. Using jackhammer with
compressor, start breaking the existing slab and disposed all debris in designated area.

Start breaking the both ends of existing slab to expose the rebars. Then cut the center wall under the existing
slab using underwater chipping hammer.

Lift the concrete slab as a whole using a crane and transport it off the site.

These procedure shall be repeated in execution of the second segment.

11. REMOVAL OF SILT AND DEBRIS

Start removing silt and debris using 4” diameter suction pump system on top of the floater. Suction hose end
will be handled by divers to suck silt and mud manually. The discharge pipe will be installed to a length of
about 200 meters from the area. A sump pit of about 5 meters will be provided at the discharge area by the
backhoe.

12. INSTALLATION OF PRECAST PIER

Prior to the installation of precast, an underwater survey and inspection will be carried out to determine the
level of the area to receive the precast structure.

The mobile crane shall be position in such a manner that it can easily lift and install the precast end pier and
inner pier simultaneously in their location. The survey shall check the accuracy of the setting out of the precast
piers during installation.

Start the installation of the precast piers with attached rubber sealer at its bottom place all throughout the
perimeter the precast structure to prevent seepage of water when it place on the existing slab. In addition, an
underwater sealant will be applied all throughout the perimeter of the installed precast pier to sealed the
interface between the precast pier and the existing slab to be watertight.

The gaps created in between the precast pier and the existing slab shall be sealed by permanent sealant.

These procedure shall be repeated in execution of the second segment.

13. DEWATERING WORKS

Provide water pump to drain the water in the working area continuously until a dry work environment is
observed.

These procedure shall be repeated in execution of the second segment.

14. REBAR SCANNING

The areas where the precast piers will be placed shall be subject for rebar scanning to locate the steel
reinforcement in the existing slab.

15. TESTING OF IN PLACE CONCRETE

Cores sample shall be obtained in accordance to the standard prescribed in ASTM C42 Standard Test Method
for Obtaining and Testing Drilled Cores and Sawed Beams of Concrete. There are two samples taken out of
the six location with different rebound numbers and shall be tested for its compressive strength determination.

16. BOTTOM SLAB

16.1. DRILLING AND INSTALLATION OF DOWEL BARS

Layout and mark the location of the dowel bars and to be drilled in the existing slab. Drilled a 20mm
diameter hole to a minimum depth of 250mm. Removed dirt or laitance from the drilled holes using
compressor before the dowel bars are installed. The dowel bar hole shall be filled with injectable
adhesives prior to the installation of dowel bars. Dowel bar may be coated with epoxy coating to minimize
corrosion prior to installation in the event of prolonged exposure to the environment. Install the dowel
bars with HILTI Hit RE 500 epoxy mortar for rebar connection.

These procedure shall be repeated in execution of the second segment.

16.2. INSTALLION OF REBARS FOR BOTTOM SLAB AT END PIER AND INNER PIER

All Steel reinforcement shall be adequately placed in the position shown on the Plans and firmly held there
during placing and setting of the concrete. Bars shall be tied at all intersections. Ties shall be fastened on the
inside. Distance from the forms shall be maintained by means of precast mortar blocks so that it does not vary
from the position indicated on the Plans by more than 6mm.

All steel reinforcement shall conform to requirements specified in the ASTM A706 entitled “Standard
Specification for Low Alloy Steel Deformed and Plain Bars for Concrete Reinforcement”

17. PLACING OF CONCRETE FOR BOTTOM SLAB AT END PIERS AND INNER PIERS

Prior to placing of structural concrete, the surveyor shall mark the top elevation of the slab. Scaffolding shall
be provided as access of the working personnel.

The concrete surface at the walls of piers to be in contact with the new concrete shall be roughened to provide
mechanical key. Prior to application of bonding agent, the concrete surface shall be clean, free from oil, rust,
dirt and or efflorescence. The concrete shall also be dampened to reduce drag on the brush or roller prior to
application of bonding agent to reduce excessive absorptions. The bonding agent shall be applied at the
prepared concrete surface by brush using a stippling action rather than a painting action and ensuring the
surface is completely covered. Care shall be taken not to over apply as this may cause high build application
to slip. However satisfactory bond can be achieved up to 15 min. after application.

Concrete shall be deposited in such a manner to require minimal re-handling. The concrete shall be unloaded
and spread manually in such a manner as to prevent segregation.

Concrete shall be conveyed using elephant trunk, pumping the concrete and spread out to the desired areas.
Concrete shall be evenly spread in layers and thoroughly consolidated against and along the faces of all forms
by means of immersion or needle vibrator. For safety purposes, workmen shall not be allowed to walk in the
freshly mixed concrete with boots or shoes coated with earth or foreign substances. In no case shall the
vibrator be operated longer than fifteen (15) seconds in any one location.

18. INSTALLATION OF TRANSLAB

The mobile crane hall be position near the location area in such a manner that it can easily lift and install the
translab in their location.

These procedure shall be repeated in execution of the second segment.

19. CAST-IN-PLACE PORTION OF PIERS

19.1. INSTALLATION OF STEEL REINFORCEMENT

All Steel reinforcement shall be adequately placed in the position shown on the Plans and firmly held there
during placing and setting of the concrete. Bars shall be tied at all intersections. Ties shall be fastened on the
inside. Distance from the forms shall be maintained by means of precast mortar blocks so that it does not vary
from the position indicated on the Plans by more than 6mm.

All steel reinforcement shall conform to requirements specified in the ASTM A706 entitled “Standard
Specification for Low Alloy Steel Deformed and Plain Bars for Concrete Reinforcement”

19.2. FORMWORKS

Materials for formworks shall be visually inspected for straightness, finish and defects prior to use. Setting out
shall be carried out by the surveyor prior to proceeding with the formworks construction.

Prior to commencement of works, confirm and establish all reference points and levels.

Formworks shall support the loads imposed on them by the fresh concrete together with additional stresses
imposed by vibrating equipment and construction traffic. Prior to fixing of forms the area shall be roughened
to provide mechanical key to the new concrete. Installed the swellable waterstop in a location as shown in the
Plan.

Formworks shall be place and fixed in conformance to the Plans. Care shall be carried out to ensure that any
formwork system is installed and supported correctly when applied on site conditions may vary,

19.3. CONCRETE POURING

Prior to placing of structural concrete, the surveyor shall mark the top elevation of the walls. Scaffolding shall
be provided as access of the working personnel.

The concrete surface shall be dampened to reduce drag on the brush or roller prior to application of bonding
agent to reduce excessive absorptions. The bonding agent shall be applied at the prepared concrete surface
by brush using a stippling action rather than a painting action and ensuring the surface is completely covered.
Bonding agent will also poured onto the existing wall of the channel prior to concrete pouring. Care shall be
taken not to over apply as this may cause high build application to slip. However satisfactory bond can be
achieved up to 15 min. after application.

Concrete shall be deposited to its location in such a manner to require minimal re-handling. The concrete shall
be unloaded and spread manually in such a manner as to prevent segregation.

19.4. REMOVAL OF FORMS AND OR SHUTTERING

Formworks shall be removed after the concrete has gained sufficient strength as specified. The period of time
elapsing between the placing of concrete and removal of forms shall be approved by the Consultant after
consideration of the loads likely to be imposed on the concrete. Cares hall be taken in removal of forms to
avoid shock or disturbances to concrete.

19.5. CURING

Immediately after the finishing operations have been completed and the concrete has sufficiently set, the
entire surface of the newly placed concrete shall be entirely covered with Burlap Mats. The mats used shall
be of such length (or width) that as laid they will extend at least twice the thickness of the concrete. The mats
shall be placed so that the entire surface and the edges of the concrete are completely covered. The mat shall
be maintained fully wetted and in position for 72 hours after the concrete has been placed unless otherwise
specified.

20. TOPPING SLAB

20.1. INSTALLATION OF REBARS AND SIDEFORMS FOR TOPPING SLAB

Formworks for top slab shall be erected using conventional scaffold framing and timber combination. Side
forms shall conforms to the shape as shown in the Plan. Soffit form shall be supported on underfloor. Shoring
for shuttering shall be of approved material and size that can support the construction traffic. Each of the
connection of scaffolding shall be fix and check for vertical stability. The surveyor shall check the level and
coordinates of slab. Adjustment for level shall be carried out with drop head. The area shall be clean prior to
rebar Works.

All Steel reinforcement for topping slab shall be adequately placed in the position shown on the Plans and
firmly held there during placing and setting of the concrete. Bars shall be tied at all intersections. Ties shall be
fastened on the inside. Distance from the forms shall be maintained by means of precast mortar blocks so
that it does not vary from the position indicated on the Plans by more than 6mm. All steel reinforcement shall
conform to requirements specified in the ASTM A615 entitled “Standard Specification for Deformed and Plain
Carbon-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement” and ASTM A706 entitled “Standard Specification for Low
Alloy Steel Deformed and Plain Bars for Concrete Reinforcement”

20.2. CONCRETE WORKS FOR TOPPING SLAB

Prior to placing of structural concrete, the surveyor shall mark the top elevation of the slab. The surface to
receive the concrete shall be structurally sound, clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and efflorescence. The
concrete surface shall be dampened to reduce drag on the brush or roller prior to application of bonding agent
to reduce excessive absorptions. Smooth concrete surface shall be mechanically roughened e.g. by
scrubbing, needle gun or sandblasting to provide a mechanical key. The bonding agent shall be applied at
the prepared concrete surface by brush using a stippling action rather than a painting action and ensuring the
surface is completely covered. Care shall be taken not to over apply as this may cause high build application
to slip. However satisfactory bond can be achieved up to 15 min. after application.

21. SAFETY/ SECURITY REQUIREMENT

21.1. Safe Work Practices

1. The building or structure to be demolished and all its components should be maintained in a safe
and structurally stable condition so as to prevent the unexpected collapse of part or all the structure.
Temporary braces, propping, shoring or guys may need to be added to ensure that stability of the
structure is maintained.

2. Adjoining properties and structures also need to be considered, as do the existence of easements,
right of way, boundary walls and other encumbrances.

3. To protect workers undertaking demolition activities, exclusion zones should be considered to


prevent unauthorised personnel entering work areas.

4. Debris should be progressively removed to prevent any build up that could affect the integrity of a
suspended floor of the building or structure, affect workplace access and egress, become a fire
hazard, or cause a health and safety hazard.

5. Training specific to the demolition work and to the site should also be provided to workers by a
competent person. A competent person is a person who has acquired through training, qualification
or experience the knowledge and skills to carry out the task.
