My magazine will be a music based magazine, talking about a variety of artists, at a variety

of stages in their careers, including a range of articles. As it the June edition of the
magazine, I will include articles about festivals, and events that are happening within this,
and the upcoming months. My double page spread will be based on the Jagged Skies album
release. The front cover will include a variety of articles that I think will draw in the attention
of my target audience, and an image of Jagged Skies, as these are the main focus of the
months magazine.

The article will focus on indie pop/rock artists, making the primary audience will be male and
females aged between 16 and 25, as these are the age range most likely to enjoy this style
of music, and are likely to read articles on the bands they like and buy a magazine. The
secondary audience will be males and females aged between 25 and 40, who like the style
and genre of the music Jagged Skies create. As Jagged Skies are influenced by the like of
Oasis, The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala the album will be full of big
euphoric choruses, and tracks that will make stadiums come alive. The magazine overall will
appeal to both of these audiences due to its contents. Liam Gallagher is an artist who
appeals to both young adults and older audiences, and people of all ages attend festivals,
therefore the articles included in the magazine will appeal to both of my target audiences. As
the magazine is going to include articles on artists at a variety of stages in their career, there
will be things that appeal to both of my audiences, as there’ll be articles of new artists, who
will attract the young adults, and older artists who will attract the middle aged audience. The
magazine will be available nationally, and can be bought either online, or from
newsagents/music stores, making it extremely accessible to anyone who may want to read
it.

In order to compete with other magazines that will be releasing an article on the album
release, I will get exclusive information from the interview, and advertise these do draw the
attention of the target audience. By making the magazine low in price, it will also draw in
more custom, as my target audience are people who won’t be willing to spend a lot of money
on magazines. Due to the recent situation with NME and it stopping publication, there is a
gap in the market for a new physical magazine of its type, which is what The Wire aims to
do. The main competitor for the magazine would be Q magazine, as it is a very popular, and
respected music magazine. The content of the magazine fits the theme of music, featuring a
variety of bands and artists and includes a variety of articles that will reach a wide range of
audiences due to its content and the time of year it is being released.

This is the first draft of my magazine layout. It

includes the image and text placement of my
article, and gives a rough idea of how I am
hoping the magazine will look, as I am currently
unsure of the article title and article contents it is
filled with placeholder text. The final version of
my magazine layout could look different to this,
as I could decide I want some things to look
differently, or that things look better in other places.

This is the first draft of my front cover. It includes the

image I am using on my cover, as well as some of the
possible headlines in the rest of the magazine. The fonts
are currently quite basic, and it is lacking a few elements
that would help the magazine stand out against others.

This is the coverline I will use on the magazines front

cover. As the edition is being released in June, it is during
the approach to festival season, and people who are
attending festivals, whether it’s their first time or not, may
find the checklist useful so that they don’t feel like they’re
missing anything.

The masthead will be positioned just underneath the coverline on the front cover of the
magazine, by using a white font
on the dark background it helps
the magazine name stand out
against the image, helping to
draw the attention to it.

I have also chosen to highlight

particular words within the
headlines on the front cover, that I think are important and will engage peoples interests in
the magazine. In this example, it is the artists that are being spoken about in the article, as
they’re all bands/artists that are current, and people
are interested in now.

I have used the same font on the coverline and the

article headlines on the front cover as this helps tie
all of the pieces together and helps the cover look
professional. The masthead then has a different
font, as this needs to stand out from the rest of the text on the page, and will be used in
every edition of the magazine in order to make it recognisable to people the more popular it
becomes.

I will have to make sure the article I write and the images I take cannot be complained about
to the IPSO, and that nothing is copyrighting any other magazines, and that anyone who
needs to be credited, is credited. I will also need to make sure everyone in the band agrees
with what is being said in the article, in order to prevent us being sued for slander. All three
of these will require me to source my own material for the magazine, making sure that an
interview is conducted with the band by the company and that our photographers take the
photos themselves. To prevent any issues with the band, the things said in the article will
need to be checked by them, or their management before it is published to ensure they
agree with everything that has been said.

This is the run down of my magazine production schedule giving a rough idea to the
production of the magazine, and the dates that everything will be completed in order to make
sure the magazine is ready for publication day.

This budget shows the cost of printing the magazine and the programme needed in order to
create the magazine. I have budgeted to have 500 copies of the magazine printed, as this
will allow it to be distributed across various areas in small amounts, and then as the
popularity of the magazine grows we can print more and distribute it in more areas and
provide them with more magazines.

When looking into the budget of the magazines there were various things I had to take into
consideration, like the cost of the production, equipment and additional fees that would be
required to make the production run smoothly. By looking into all of these things that would
be needed to make the magazine feasible, I was able to talk about advertising, and selling
copies as a way to fund everything, resulting in a magazine that would be financially stable
and able to pay out for all of the necessary things.I have budgeted to have permanent
journalists and photographers, however it could benefit me more in the future to use
freelancers.

These were some potential images for the front cover and article of my
magazine, however I felt like the lighting on the images didn’t work, and
the other band members were being excluded from the photographs,
which I decided against as it felt like they should all be included, even if
they’re in the background.

I also decided not to include the image below, as I felt the arm ruined
the shot, and couldn’t have been worked around. It is also quite difficult
to see the band in this image, which as they’re the focus of the article,
wouldn’t have
worked well.
