WRAP IT UP
Wrapping your vehicle or spraying a rubberized coating to certain parts (wheels,
spoilers, hoods) is all the rage right now. The issue is that the standard aerosol spray
product found at the hardware store was not designed for automotive use but for
protecting tools. The Eastwood Company has just introduced its own automotive-
based removable rubber coating called ElastiWrap. It is available in aerosol cans as well
as quart and gallon containers that can be easily applied with its turbine spray gun or HVLP
spray gun. The ElastiWrap dries to a matte finish, or you can apply Eastwood’s gloss clear or pearl
finish coat. ElastiWrap peels easily, allowing you to change colors or effects in just hours (or go back to your original painted
finish); great for shows or special events. ElastiWrap is 50-state compliant, can be shipped to California, and its high-build
formula means less product is required. Info: (800) 343-9353; www.eastwood.com.

NEX-GEN AUDIO
FOR YOUR MUSTANG
If your Mustang’s dash is begging for an audio upgrade (and who
doesn’t want killer sound with navigation and more) then check out
the latest NEX network connected in-dash receivers from Pioneer.
The NEX line features five models, all double-DIN configuration,
with built-in navigation that features 7.9 million points of interest
and AVIC-equipped models can even obtain live traffic information.
AVICSYNC1 allows a connected smartphone to access local
searches, weather and gas info, and more. Even better, NEX receivers
can integrate directly with OEM systems tied to a stock radio, such
as Ford’s SYNC. Additional features include Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free
for iPhone users, Pandora Station Creation, Sirius-XM ready, dual USB ports, 13-band
EQ, Aha Radio, touch-screen interface, and much more. Find the NEX line at Pioneer installation
retailers, Best Buy, Crutchfield, and more. Info: www.pioneerelectronics.com.

ALUMINATE THE POSSIBILITIES

There’s no denying the popularity of the Coyote 5.0L engine in the ’11 and up Mustang. Just take
a look at how many have been used in street rods, vintage Mustang swaps, and so on. Ford Racing
has offered an Aluminator version of the 5.0L Coyote (better internal
hardware than the stock Coyote crate engine) for a while now. For
those looking for just a short-block option Ford Racing has listened
to you. Ford Racing now offers two short-blocks, one for
naturally aspirated applications and one for supercharged/
boosted applications. Hand assembled with Mahle forged
pistons, Manley rods, ARP fasteners, and more, they offer a great
foundation to build your custom 5.0L powerplant or to replace an
aging factory modular V-8 in your late-model Mustang.

ONE-STEP SHINE
Not everyone has the time to spend on applying paste wax and then buffing the surface out. With
Eagle One’s Wax-As-U-Dry you can have long-lasting protection in minutes. The patented formula
found in Wax-As-U-Dry allows application to wet or dry surfaces. Simply spray Wax-As-U-Dry
onto your freshly washed car and wipe dry. No buffing is required and you’ll be left with a
streak-free finish that will protect your Mustang’s paint for months from acid rain, salt, and
other contaminants in one quick step. Info: (800) 832-6825; www.eagleone.com. MM

Never trust a cam card from a manufacturer because mistakes can happen

to the specifications on a cam card. Invest in a TDC indicator and a degree

EARLY HI-PO FIGURES

Ford produced just 7,273 K-codes in ’64½-’65, of which
most were ’65s. The ’64½s were only produced for
about two months. The High Performance Registry has
only 126 of these ’64½ cars registered, of which only
36 are convertibles (only 20 percent of all Hi-Pos were
convertibles).

▲ Mustangs were about options and this car was no exception.

From the Rally Pac and four-speed transmission, to the deluxe
belts, floor console, and tinted windshield, Tom Dinkins ordered
and received the car of his dreams. As it turns out, this triple
blue Mustang may just be one of a kind.

MUSTANG MONTHLY NOVEMBER 2014 69

Two historic Shelby Mustangs—5R002 and 5R003, the first competition and street G.T. 350s—were on display throughout Mid-
America as part of their 50th anniversary tour. Oklahoma’s John Brown, owner of Thoroughbred Restorations, recently restored the
cars for owners John Atzbach and Mark Hovander, respectively.

GAUGE GREMLINS
My ’05 GT convertible, with about 60K on the clock, has a gauge cluster that is possessed! Over
the last year the gas gauge began to read erratically. Sometimes it was correct in position and accuracy,
other times it would point down or right or whatever it wished. This would change over time for no
apparent reason other than turning the car on and off. My Ford dealer first thought the sending unit
was the issue, then a computer module. However there was no guarantee of a fix. A few months later
the tachometer went crazy and now it is all over the place, sometimes frozen, other times moving, but
in totally the wrong position. The dealer now wants to replace the entire instrument cluster, but again,
no guarantee of a fix. As you know, the cluster, plus installation, is a bit pricey. I’d pay if we were sure
about it. Any thoughts?
