GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:

La Libertad, department of Peru in which the city of Trujillo is located, is located


on the north coast of Peru. It covers coast, mountains and jungle.
By the north limits with Lambayeque.
By the south with Ancash and Huanuco.
By the east, with San Martín and Cajamarca.
By the west with the Mar de Grau.
HISTORICAL REVIEW

Diego de Almagro founded the Villa de Trujillo at the end of 1534, in memory of
the hometown of Francisco Pizarro.

Francisco Pizarro made the foundation official on March 5, 1535, calling it


"Ciudad de Trujillo de Nueva Castilla".

The King of Spain Carlos V, gives him the title of "City", by Royal Decree, and
also gives him his current coat of arms.

During the viceroyalty, Trujillo was considered the granary of Peru (for its
contribution of sugar, rice, hides, cereals, flour and swine, as well as mining)
and became the most important city in the north of Peru.

On February 12, 1821, General Don José de San Martín converted the
Intendancy of Trujillo into Department.
