G-John – IRENT Readers Edition
The basic text of this IRENT is open to the public and available free to
all for their personal use. The text is continually updated, replaced,
and uploaded at http://tiny.cc/bostonreaders
or http://tiny.cc/bostonreaders3
taken out of the main text and attached to the PDF file:
Translator’s Note:
The Gospel of John is placed as the first book of the Four Gospels in IRENT,
unlike most of the published New Testament, translated as well as Greek.
It helps both G-Luke and Acts put together.
• A zip file “Reference Materials to G-Jn” is included in IRENT Vol. I. Zip file:
• The translated text comes after the Title page and the Table of Content page;
all the introductory material is placed at the end of the text [before the
Appendix Section] to make it easier for reading on a mobile device.
• Note: A segment in light-colored shade bracketed with (( )) indicates that it is from the
voice of the Evangelist-editor which is different from the voice of the narrator himself. Most
frequently in G-John. E.g.
4:8
((There, his disciples had gone off into the town to buy some food.))

{
Gospel}a according to Yohan b
For the sake of easily distinguishing several people with this same common name, IRENT renders it as
follows.
(1) ‘John’ – This English form is retained only in the titles of the Gospel and the three Johannine
Epistles. c
(2) Yohan’ – IRENT renders this way only for the Apostle; a disciple (Apostle) of Yeshua.
[A Zebedee’s son and a brother of Yaakob (x: James)] [This name of him (Yohan, 'John') as His
disciple does NOT appear in the text of the Gospel and three Johannine Epistles!]
(3) Yohanan’ – for all others: the Synoptics and Acts (e.g. Yohanan the Immerser) and also in the
Revelation.
a
{Gospel} ░░ [in some mss. ‘Gospel’ in the title of all Four Gospels is in the sense of a ‘Gospel-book’.]
b
Yohan > John [The name in the title of the Gospel signifies the authorship and editorship of the book.
[G-Jn as the abbreviation of the Gospel.]
c
Probably one and same author is responsible for all these five books. He can NOT be identical to the
prominent disciple (‘apostle’) of Yeshua in the Synoptic Gospels (rendered as Yohan in IRENT). He is
alluded as ‘the disciple Yeshua loved’ – Jn 19:26, 27; 20:2-3; 21:7, 20; the unnamed disciple – Jn 13:25ff;
Jn 18:15, 16. Probably he is the unnamed disciple whom Yeshua loved (Possibly Eleazar (> Lazarus) of G-
Jn Ch. 11. Reading material: The Lazarus Affair (fiction) by Ron McRay (2012).

Healing a man born blind =The 5th Sign

9:1
And as he was passing passing-by [+ on sabbath day] [← 9:14], [Cf. 7:37, 8:2]
he saw a man blind from his birth.
9:2
And his disciples asked him, saying
“Rabbi¡ who has sinned — this very man or his parents,
seeing that he should be born blind?”

Yeshua answered,
“Not so –
it is not that this man sinned or that his parents did.

Then again the Pharisees also put him on questioning
how he received his sight back.
And he said to them,
“Kneading mud he put it on my eyes and I washed;
look, [don’t yoů see?] Now I see!”
9:16
Then, some of the Pharisees said,
<That man who did this is not from Elohim, [how can he be]
— seeing that he does not keep the sabbath?!>
Others said,
<How can a man who is an outcast sinner do such signs?>
Thus, there was division among them.
9:17
They say again to the blind man,
“You, what do you say about him,
knowing that he opened your eyes?”
And the blind man said,
“A prophet, he is? – he must be!”
9:18
The Yehudim of the ruling authority, however, did not believe
that he was once blind and now got his sight back
— that was until finally they called up the parents of the very man
who got his sight back:

She said to him,
“Yes, Master¡ I, I do indeed believe
that you, you are the very Mashiah [we are waiting for]
— the Son of the Elohim, the One coming into the world.”
Yeshua was moved to tears
11:28
And after having said this,
she went back home and called her sister Mariam.
With Mariam close to her side, she told:a
“The Teacher is coming; he’s near here!
and calling for you.”
11:29
When she heard it, this Mariam got up quickly jumped out
and was off on her way to meet him.
11:30
((Now Yeshua had not yet come into the village,
but was still at the place where Martha met him.))
11:31
Then, when those Yehudim saw Mariam get up and hurry out
— who were with her in the house consoling her —
they followed Mariam.
((They thought she was going to the tomb to weep there.))
11:32
When she-came upon where Yeshua was on his way
Mariam saw him
and fell down at his feet, saying to him,
“Master¡ if only you had been here,
the one who was a brother to me – my brother! –
he would not have died …” [cf. 11:21]
11:33
As for Yeshua, he was deeply moved in spirit and became troubled
at the sight of her weeping
and weeping of the Yehudim who had come with her,
11:34
and asked,
“Where have yoů laid him?”
They said to him,
“Master¡ come and see.”
11:35
Yeshua was moved to tears.
11:36
Thus the Yehudim said,
“See, how he dearly loved him!”
11:37
But some of them said,
“This man opened the eyes of the blind, didn’t he?
Could he not have kept this Eleazar from dying?”

Therefore, Yeshua, again deeply moved in himself,
came to the tomb.
((In fact, it was a cave
with a large stone-slab lying against the entrance of it.))
11:39
Yeshua says,
“Lift up and take away the stone!”
Martha – the sister of the deceased – said to him,
“Master¡
you see, it is fourth day [since he was laid]![11:17]
By now … there would be a stench …”
11:40
Yeshua says to her,
“Didn’t I tell you that, if you believed so,
you would see the glory of the Elohim?”
11:41
So they took away the stone.
And Yeshua looked up, and said
“Father¡ I thank you that you have heard me.
11:42
And I do know that you hear me always:
but I say this for the sake of the crowd
standing around here
so that they may believe that you did send me.”
11:43
And having spoken these, he shouted in a loud voice,
“Eleazar¡ come out here!…”

Somewhat differently with G-John, the Gospel text except Ch. 21 is enclosed in
the dashed-line box in units of a large or small size. The color of the box tells
where the segment of text is found in relation to other Gospels: (Same for the
nestled boxes within a box.)
Only in G-Jn ◊⌂
G-Jn and all Synoptics ◊⌂
G-Jn and one or two Synoptics ◊⌂
Such text segmentation using boxes is to show how the text sits in the text
structure which should be kept mind when reading the Bible. The color scheme
is to help the readers recognize how parallel the text is in four Gospels. When
the text is in a different line of flow for narrative and discourse, the box is set
back from the left margin.
