Pioneering Gas Solutions from Concept to Completion

Nitrogen Generators —

GENERON® is the world leader in air separation and Nitrogen Membrane technology. Our Nitrogen
Generators systems produce inert nitrogen from a compressed air source in the quantity you need, at a
low cost.

The foundation of GENERON®’s technology stems from Dow Chemical’s Polymer Research Group, which
screened hundreds of polymers in the 1970’s and 1980’s before selecting the optimum combination of
gas permeability and selectivity. This polymer work has allowed GENERON® to lead the industry in the
delivery of high productivity nitrogen solutions for over 40 years.

GENERON holds 15 patents covering the process of converting the polymer into hollow fibers about the
size of a human hair. Specialized technology is required to balance fiber strength and gas flow
characteristics to optimize fiber performance.

GENERON holds 20 patents covering the technologies used to bundle our polymeric fiber into
completed modules. Each module has more than 1-million fibers and critical that each fiber is bundled in
a way that ensures each fiber contributes to the gas separation process.

GENERON®’s technology development over the past 40 years has improved membrane separation
efficiency by 500%! GENERON®’s R & D efforts are continuing to improve performance into the future.

Membrane Technology

How does a membrane work?

The membrane separation of gases is simple in concept.

At the heart of technology are polymeric membrane
materials that allow for the rapid passage of one gas
while minimizing the passage of another. The GENERON®
Membrane is a solubility and diffusivity driven process
directly proportional to the partial pressure differences of
components in the feed and permeate gas streams. The
GENERON® high performance membrane maximizes the
passage of waste gases while keeping the nitrogen loss to
a minimum. GENERON maintains reliability unmatched in
the industry!

GENERON®’s polymer has the best properties for allowing

the fast gases to permeate the membrane relative to the
slow gases, resulting in the most efficient membrane
performance and lowest unit power consumption.

The membrane module contains millions of fibers.

Compressed feed air is passed down the bores of the
fibers at one end of the module with the enriched
nitrogen gas exiting from the opposing end. Oxygen and
water vapor are selectively removed and vented away
from the feed air as it flows to the other end of the
module.

GENERON® combines the best available membrane

materials with state-of-the-art fiber bundling and the
optimum module fabrication methods to provide the most
cost effective solution for on-site nitrogen
production....and we have over 80 patents to prove it!

For over 40 years, GENERON®’s has supplied reliable and efficient membranes to multiple industries for
applications including: On-Site N2-Generation, CO2-Removal, Gas Dehydration, Gas Pre-Treatment, H2-
Recovery, Custom skid fabrication and more. Our experience in the design and manufacture of gas
separation and purification systems continues to grow, as we work closely with OEM’s and System
Integrators to add value to their customers and improve project efficiency.

GENERON controls all aspects of its proprietary and patented hollow-fiber manufacturing process: From
formulation, to extrusion, to process treatment, to spinning, to post treatment, and ultimately fabrication
of the Gas Separation Membrane Modules. Painstaking QC and years of experience in the design and
fabrication of membrane fibers, membrane modules and systems enables the GENERON ® fiber to be
the standard of the industry.

The Membrane Flow Diagram below, demonstrates the relative rates of common gases with the focus on
the separation of oxygen and water vapor from compressed air to provide a high-purity nitrogen
product stream. The GENERON® polymer has the best properties for allowing O2 & H2O to permeate
preferentially through the membrane walls relative to the N2 and inert Air. GENERON® Membranes
deliver the most efficient air separation membrane performance and the lowest unit power consumption
