SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS [“SAP”] STATUS:

SAP OUT OF COMPLIANCE
Graduate Satisfactory Academic Progress- Financial Aid Suspension

Please be advised that after the annual review and verification of your student record, we have confirmed
that you have NOT met one or more satisfactory academic progress standards, as defined below, which
are necessary to maintain your eligibility for Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds). At this point in time,
your financial aid eligibility has been suspended. However, if you have mitigating circumstances as to
why you have unsatisfactory academic progress, then you are strongly urged to file an appeal with the
Graduate Committee on Academic Standing in order to reinstate financial aid eligibility. You can request
a hearing by submitting the attached appeal form with supporting documentation, within five [5] days
of the date of this letter. Please review the appeal procedure attached to this email and send the required
documentation to: Dr. Nilda Soto-Ruiz at nilda.soto-ruiz@touro.edu

According to Federal regulations and Touro’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy, in order to
maintain your financial aid eligibility (a) you must maintain a certain minimum cumulative GPA, (b) you
need to be able to complete your program in a predetermined amount of time, and (c) you need to have
successfully completed a certain percentage of the courses in which you enrolled.

In other words, you have failed to maintain one or more of the following progress standards:
• Achieve a program specific minimum cumulative GPA as set by your program and in the SAP
policy.
• Complete your program in a timeframe set by the program and defined by the SAP policy located
at http://www.touro.edu/students/policies/satisfactory-academic-progress-policy/
• Successfully complete a specific number of credits as set by your program and in the SAP policy.
Your ratio of attempted credits and successfully completed credits can make you ineligible for
Financial Aid.

Upon receipt of this letter you must immediately contact the Chairperson or Director of your program to
discuss the proper steps going forward as well as to obtain a detailed analysis of the above violation(s).

APPEAL PROCESS
Students who become ineligible to receive Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds) for failure to meet the
SAP standards and have been notified that they have been placed on Financial Aid Suspension have the
right to make a written appeal to the appropriate Committee on Academic Standing ("CAS"). Students
who appeal must demonstrate all of the following:

• that failure to meet the minimum standard was caused by extreme or unusual circumstances
beyond his or her control (corroborating documentation must be supplied);
• that they have resolved the issue(s) that caused the deficit, and;
• that the issue(s) will not affect their performance in the future.

Once an appeal has been submitted to the committee for a decision, the appeal will be heard at the
committee’s next meeting. The Graduate Committee on Academic Standing meets once a year, in August.
Therefore, your appeal form with supporting documentation must be received no later than the 1st week
in August.

Any appeals submitted after the deadline or without supporting documentation will be denied.

All decisions are final. If a decision has not been made by the time tuition is due, it is the student’s
responsibility to contact the Office of Financial Aid to discuss the options on how to proceed.

Touro College is committed to your academic success and to the completion of your program of study.
However, you are solely responsible to maintain your own Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds)
eligibility. If there were mitigating circumstances that contributed to your loss of eligibility, then it is your
responsibility to file an appeal.

Alternate Option- Self-Correction

If you have received this notification and you have ANY incomplete (INC) or Tentative (T) grades on
your record at the time of our assessment, your status may change once those grades are finalized. If the
changes to your record raise your GPA and/or improve your pace and you now meet SAP requirements,
you do not have to file an appeal. While you may have self-corrected, you still must notify your financial
aid office immediately to reassess your Federal Financial Aid (Title IV) eligibility. Failure to do so may
result in the continued status of Financial Aid suspension.

Alternatively, a student may pay using means other than Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds) while
going through a process of self-correction. Once the becomes compliant with SAP regulations student
through self- correction, then the student may re-apply for Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds). It is the
student’s sole responsibility to contact their financial aid office and have their record reviewed for
eligibility. If deemed eligible, Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds) may be applied to the subsequent
semester(s) (as long as the student is compliant with SAP regulations) and may not be applied
retroactively.

Please note that if you have received this notice and you have not received Federal Financial Aid (Title IV
funds) at any time during your enrollment, this is only to inform you that if for any future semesters at
Touro College, you would like to apply Federal Financial Aid (Title IV funds), at that time, if you did not
self-correct, you will need to follow the Appeal Process as outlined above.
