1. "People are motivated to fulfill basic needs before moving on to other more advanced (3)
needs". Explain the process of motivation and highlight the significance of need
hierarchy theory in motivating employees with suitable examples.
2. (a) "Psychology is the systematic knowledge that is gathered by carefully measuring and (2)
observing events." Discuss the importance of Independent and dependent variables in
this systematic approach with examples.
(b) Analyze the role of violent video games in reference to Bandura's social/ (2)
observational learning.
Violent video games can be detrimental for human development. The prime target are the
children and teenagers who are considered to be very naive and vulnerable due to their age and
lack of knowledge about purchasing and playing video games such as Grand Theft Auto, God of
War, Doom, Manhunt, etc.
There are various kinds of negative effects, which are created from playing such games. There
are more adverse effects than positive effects on the players and it can be categorized in two
segments as long-term effects and short-term effects. The young and easily manipulated players
are observed to show very disturbing behavior, which includes aggressive and destructive
notions on their surroundings.
3. "Whole is not equal to sum of its parts." Explain this dictum of Gestalt psychology with (2.5)
reference to any three laws of Perceptual Organization.
4. "Reinforcement increases the likelihood of a desired response." Elucidate different
schedules of reinforcement with appropriate examples. (3)
5. Suppose that a tailor working alone can make 2 suits per month; 2 tailors working in the
same shop can produce 5 suits; 3 tailors, 10 suits; 4 tailors, 14 suits; 5 tailors, 17 suits and 6
tailors, 19 suits.
a) When does the law of diminishing returns begin to operate? (1)
b) What will be the optimal level of tailor if the salary of each tailor is Rs. 400/- and
selling price of each suit is Rs 100/-. (2)
6. a) Cora spends all her money on food and clothing. When the price of clothing decreases, (1.5)
she buys more clothing. Explain the effect on equilibrium point using demand and supply
curves.
b) Explain the shortage and surplus in the market for a commodity. (1.5)
c) Explain the various determinants of demand? (1.5)

7. Marty's Frozen Yogurt is a shop that sells cups of frozen yogurt in a university town. (5)
Marty owns ten frozen-yogurt machines. His other inputs are refrigerators, frozen-yogurt
mix, cups, sprinkle toppings, and, of course, workers. He estimates that his total cost of
production varies with the change in the variable cost with context to output produced as
shown in the table below. Calculate Average fixed cost, average variable cost, average total
cost and marginal costs for all levels of output.
