Philippine History is the reminiscence of the historical events in the
Philippines. All professionals should be well-versed of the history of the country.
A respectable, Filipino professional can never be better without the knowledge
of being a citizen of their own home. And being a citizen in the Philippines is also
being a devotee to own religion. Filipinos are known to be religious since the
Spanish Colonial Period.

May 19, 2018 – Mr. Jay C. Barrios, Jr. & Ms. Abigael Patricia M. Gutierrez
held a symposium regarding the Issues on Religion in the Philippines. The event
started at 1 pm and ended at 4 pm. The symposium was conducted to enhance
the students’ knowledge about religion in the Philippines and to amend the
speakers’ ability to manage an occasion. The speakers entrusted the audience to
cooperate by assigning their roles, instructing them to wear an attire (Sunday’s
Best), and encouraging the co-students to listen.

At 1:00 pm, the audiences were instructed to change their clothes to

required attire for the event. The symposium started at exactly 1:30 pm, it began
with the registration of the audiences handled by Ms. Jasmine Aira T. Martinez.
Then the program proper was hosted by the Masters of Ceremony, Ms. Jeanilyn
A. Luna & Mariel Arriane J. Ravelas. The proper was started with Invocation &
Nationalistic Song with a video presentation. Since Roniel Natoza was absent
that time, Ms. Franzel Micaela D. Agudo was assigned to be the Opening
Remarks for the event. After the spectacular remarks of Ms. Agudo, Ms. Anne
Camille P. De Padua was called for the Introduction of the Speakers. When Ms.
De Padua finished the introduction, the speakers were now ready that time to
take the stage for the Discussion of the Topic.

Prior to the discussion, Mr. Barrios provided a Meditation Talk and

Evaluation regarding a person’s spiritual roles and capabilities of each audience
and then proceeded with the lecture. The first topic was about Religious
Problems in the Philippines and the American Catholic Church (1898 – 1907). It
discusses the Religion being involved with the government that time and how it
can be solved. It also discusses how the Americans also contribute to the
Religious Problems of the Philippines that time. After the first lecture, the
speakers conducted a game that will motivate the audiences to be active. The
audiences were divided into 3 groups, each group will be provided with different
games but same level of difficulty of the game. The winning group will be given a
grand prize and the other groups will just be given ‘give aways’. The first game
was “Pinoy Henyo” with the subject to be answered “Archbishop”. The group
hadn’t answered the subject, leading them to be the last group.

The second lecture was regarded to The Politics of Religion in the

Philippines. It was about the relation of religion and politics since the time of
President Ferdinand E. Marcos and how the Catholics became a rebel with a
cause to the government. The second game was “Jumbled Letters to Word”. The
jumbled letters are to be formed as Senator Juan Ponce Enrile. Within a minute,
the group already answered right, making them as a potential for the winning
group.

The third topic was about Religious Conflict in the Philippines: Muslims
vs. Christians. For the Muslims they want an equal treatment with the Christians
in relation to politics. Because they view that the Christians were mostly favor in
the government. For the 3rd and last game, the ice breaker was “Charades”. With
the subjected answer was “Abu Sayyaf”. Within 2 minutes, the group answered
correctly, leading them to be the 2nd winning group. The group 2 won the grand
prize of the game.

Then, the speakers provided an open forum for the speakers and the
audiences. Some of the audiences shared a view of the religious issues not only
here in the Philippines but also in some other countries particularly in the Middle
East Asian Countries.

After the discussion of the topic, the event proceeded with the awarding
of certificates for the speakers of the symposium given by the masters of the
ceremony. Since Mr. Luong Quoc Khanh was excused by Dean May M. Veridiano,
Ph.D, RN, Ms. Lorein A. Garbe was assigned for the Closing Remarks. After the
speech, evaluation is a must every after an event. The speakers were mostly
given a satisfactory evaluation.
