Monica Althea M. Mollaneda Time & Section: Date:

Name of 9-Galileo (8:30-9:30) June 8, 2017
Teacher 9-Pythagoras (12:30-1:30)
Learning Area: Mathematics Quarter: I Module No.: I
Competency: Solve quadratic equations by extracting the square root.
Lesson Solving Quadratic Equations Duration (mins./hrs) 1 hr.
Key Understandings *The easiest way of solving quadratic equations is by extracting the square root. To do this,
to be developed equate the quadratic term its constant. Then, square both sides of the equation. The value of x
is the square root of the constant.
*To solve quadratic equations by factoring, see if the given equation is factorable. If it is, then
factor it and equate both factors to zero. Then, solve.
Knowledge Recall on how to find the roots of a given number and on how to factor
(Remembering) quadratic equations.
Skills Solve quadratic equations by extracting the square root and factoring.
Learning Objectives (Applying and
Analysis)
Attitudes Answer the given items with speed and accuracy.
Values Overcome obstacles to meet a stated goal.
Resources Needed Learner’s module, flash cards, paper, pen, chalk, timer, android phone
Elements of the Plan Methodology
Preparation The teacher will conduct a review on finding the roots and on
-How will I make the Introductory factoring quadratic equations. Flash cards will be shown and
learners ready? Activity/Motivation students will answer them orally.

generalization the wall. The square opening must have an area of 0.25 m^2.
/concept 1. How are you going to represent the length of a side of
/conclusion the square-shaped wall? How about its area?
/abstraction should 2. Suppose the area of the remaining part of the wall after
the learners arrive at? the carpenter has made the square opening is 6 m^2.
What equation would describe the area of the remaining
part of the wall?
3. How will you find the length of a side of the wall?
Problem 2:
A rectangular metal manhole with an area of 0.5 m^2 is situated
along a cemented pathway. The length of the pathway is 8m
longer than its width.
1. What expression would represent the length and the
width of the pathway?
2. How about its area?
3. Suppose the area of the cemented portion of the
pathway is 19.5 m^2. What equation would describe the
area?
4. How did you find the length and width of the pathway?
Volunteers will be asked to present and discuss their answers in
Analysis the activity on the board. Other students will evaluate them and
decide if they agree or disagree with the given answers.
Discussion of key concepts will be done by the teacher
afterwards.
Ask:
Abstraction 1. How do you find the solutions of quadratic equations?
2. Explain how each method is done.
Practice The teacher will give items on solving quadratic equations by

Assessment Solve the following quadratic equations by extracting the square root:
(Refer to DepED Order 1. 2x2 -72=0
No. 73, s. 2012 for the 2. (x – 5)2 – 100 = 0
examples) 3. 18x2 + 12x + 2 = 7
Solve the following quadratic equations by factoring:
1. 5x^2-6x=0
2. x^2+7x+6=0
3. 12y^2-5y=2
Assignment Reinforcing the lesson Write five examples of quadratic equations which can be solve by
extracting the square root and by factoring. Provide solution for
each.
