The modern influence of technology and the millennial generation

From the beginning of this century, we are living in an age in which information
technology is having an impact on all areas and becoming a driving force for social and
economic development. This essay will present the importance of this type of tools based
on the theory that technology is an essential element for modern life, with a focus on the
highly mentioned “Millennial” generation (people between 20 and 35 years old), because
it is this generation the protagonist of the latest and greatest technological revolution of
recent times.
In first place, the advantages offered by the use of technologies are that they directly
favor business growth and entrepreneurship, make their processes more efficient and
generally improve the productivity of our economy. In a survey made by one of the largest
telecommunications companies in the world “Telefónica” and in collaboration with
Financial Times and Burson-Marsteller, the millennial generation corroborates this
information. The majority of these young people (91%) claim that technology serves to
break the language barrier, help them find employment (89%), and substantially increase
opportunities for all people (76%). The same study showed up that they value
entrepreneurship and innovation, which is reflected in the following statistics: 37% believe
that being an entrepreneur is very important, 23% think that they have the possibility of
becoming an entrepreneur, and developing and idea and inserting it in the market is a
19%, which is above the global average obtained by the study.
In second place, it is important to point out that based on the survey results the president
of Telefónica Chile, Claudio Muñoz, also declared, “This original word-class study provides
a valuable global perspective on millennial generation, especially at the national level, as
these people will be our leaders of the future. They think that technology allows us to
reduce the gap between social classes, provides more opportunities, they think that it can
cause important changes for the future of the country”.
Considering all of this, it could be said that it is a big responsibility to promote the Chilean
technological industry and innovation as a driving force for the development of the
country, in order to provoke the digital transformation that is already happening
worldwide and, finally, to position Chile as a regional benchmark in terms of developing
technological solutions, applied to productive processes. Proof of this can be seen in the
initiatives to be implemented or already implemented by the Modernization Unit and
Digital Council of the General Secretariat of Government, which promise to digitize the
150 most common municipal procedures in 345 municipalities throughout the country,
boosting cloud services, public data and shared spaces.
In conclusion, it could be said that it is a brand new world in which technology influence in
a certain way every step that people make. Technology becomes an essential tool for
everyday living, involving our social, economic and cultural development. Despite the fact
that the study and this essay were based on a survey applied to a millennial generation,
they are only the beginning of several generations, who will use all the progress to
improve and make even greater ones, and there will come a time when today's
technology will only be a thing of the past, and it is up to us to open those opportunities in
the future.
