Mission Statement

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Junior Chamber of Commerce’s mission

is to engage students in education, business, and the local community by opening them up to

networking opportunities and interpersonal experience.

Positions

President

The President of the Junior Chamber has many requirements. The first thing that the

president should be aware of is college policy. It is important that the president abides by all

rules set by the college. The president should also be aware of the resources provided by the

college to utilize of any and all resources available to the club. One of these resources the

president must make use of is the Laker Student Club Board. This board consists of member of

the various other clubs on campus. The Laker Student Board Club will allow the president to

network and make connections on campus and create a positive image. The president of the

Junior Chamber is the external spokesperson. The president must appear and speak at all events

that require the attendance of the Junior Chamber. If the president cannot attend, then they must

have the Vice President attend for them. In respect to the Vice President, this must be requested

at least twenty-four hours before the event.

The President of the Junior Chamber has many obligations to its club and community and

therefore must attend the following events: Bay Area Chamber of Commerce monthly business

meeting, Wednesday Business Connection, grand openings, ribbon cuttings, fundraising events,

community events, and campus events. It is very important that the president presents the Junior

Chambers values and mission to the community.

As the President of the Junior Chamber, there are many tasks that will need to be

completed in order for a successful club. There are many tasks the president must complete to

ensure the club is organized such as planning and motivating. The president must plan the

agenda and newsletter each month along with weekly meetings. This requires great

communication and planning skills by the president. The president must set monthly goals and

regular check in with members to make sure the goals are being met. If the goals are not being

met it is the president’s job to help motivate members to increase club activity and

interaction. The president is responsible for making sure that all club members are actively

engaged in club activities. This can be achieved by having positive interactions with club

members. In order to have positive interactions with club members the president should plan

club social activities that all members would enjoy participating in.

Vice President

The Vice President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce serves as chairperson in the

absence of the president and is expected to represent the JCC in a professional manner. They

may also attend Monthly Bay Area Chamber of Commerce meetings and other events with or in

place of the president. If the president is unable to attend a certain even they may call on the vice

president to go in their place but must give notice to the vice president at least 24 hours in

advance. Alternatively, if the vice president is unable to attend they can call on one of the other

officers to take their place with the same time restriction with respect for the other officer.

As vice president, one is expected to assist the president with the responsibilities of the

club and provides input in developing the meeting agenda. They also work with the president in

promoting club activities and running meetings in the absence of the president. They must also

attend and have a table at all of the Club’s Rush events during the year.

The vice president is expected to coordinate at least one Spotlight Speaker event for each

term. A Spotlight Speaker is a member of the community who has information or knowledge to

share with students; an example would be a business owner or board member or a committee.

The speaker is there to give insight into a topic that is important to the community, college, or

students themselves. These meetings are open to the campus. Professors may use them as extra-

credit opportunities.

Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager is responsible for showcasing the club’s activity within the

community and how it benefits the students. This position oversees gathering news and

information about events and activities the club is involved in or is attending. They are in charge

of taking photos and posting small blurbs of information to social media on the JCC page.

As Social Media Manager, one must attend various events within the community; if they

are unable to make it they must be available to receive photos and information from someone

who attended and make a post from that information. They also will give information for articles

and will work with the radio and news stations to publicize certain event. These responsibilities

may be delegated to someone else if necessary.

Secretary

The secretary is required to attend all JCC meetings; if they are unable to they should

inform the president or vice president and make arrangements for someone else to take notes for

that meeting. The are responsible to organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files as well

as designing and managing flyer and other promotional paperwork. This requires organizational

skills and access to a printer and filing over three terms. They must also take responsibility for

confidential documents. The president or another officer may give the secretary sensitive

documents with funds or other sensitive information; they must have somewhere to file these

documents to keep them safe.

They will also oversee correspondence; this is anything from thank you cards to

scheduling appointments for other officers or members of the club. The secretary is also in

charge of informing the club members when and where the meetings will take place. As

secretary, one must be comfortable speaking with members of the community and giving

information about the Junior Chamber of Commerce and its various events and activities.

Events Coordinator

As the Event Coordinator, it is their duty to oversee all aspects of events and fundraisers

planed and/or participated in by the JCC. Within those duties, there are several tasks and

responsibilities to uphold. It is important for the E.C. to develop and maintain a working

relationship with participants, vendors, volunteers, and stakeholders. If the Event Coordinator is

not the lead coordinator for an event or fundraiser that the Junior Chamber of Commerce is either

fundraising or participating in, then it is their responsibility to get in contact with the person who

is and coordinate with them. The Event Coordinator also must call, email, and meet with

organizations or individuals for event planning. The Event Coordinator communicate with the

marketing team to help create effective advertisements and participate in distributing the agreed

upon material.

As this position holds several duties and responsibilities, it is in the E.C.’s best interest to

delegate tasks to other members when necessary as well as have a strong understanding of the

event or fundraiser being planned to allow them the ability to fully understand the situation and

be able to relay that information correctly. Communication is key in any area of a club,

especially event planning, which is why throughout the Event Coordinators work it is vital that

they communicate effectively via meetings, texts, or emails to the J.C.C and keep them up to

speed. When it comes to the day of events or fundraisers, the E.C must be on site for the entire

duration of said event or fundraiser. That includes before, during, and after to ensure a smooth

delivery. If the Event Coordinator is unable to attend any events or J.C.C meetings, a fill in must

be temporarily put into position.

The Event Coordinator must be present at ALL fundraisers and no less than 10 events.

JCC Club Manual

All of these fundraisers and events are important is supporting and sustaining the goals

and mission of the Junior Chamber of Commerce by taking classroom learning out into the

business world where we are able to network and develop business leadership skills and bridge

the gap between business and education.
