Introduction

Quite a few children dream of becoming an astronaut when they grow up, but what they

don’t know, is that they will have to get any of four different degrees or have been in flight on an

airplane for 1000 hours or at least 3 years of job experience. Not only that, but they also have to

be extremely healthy, physically fit and just the right height! Sometimes if one astronaut gets

sick a few days before the launch date, another astronaut will go to space instead, so it’ like

substitute teachers.

Thesis Statement

In this paper, the author will explain how the astronauts train, live, and eat before, during,

and after they stay on the ISS. This paper is a guide that prepares you for the ISS (if you get

chosen to live there). The author will also tell about the after-effects of going to space for a long

time and then coming back to Earth.

Before

Before you become an astronaut, you have to get chosen by a space program. Once you

get chosen, you have to take part in medical tests and other physical tests. After that, you have to

get chosen to even go to the International Space Station. You will also have to get very important

training. Once the training is done and the rest of the space agency is ready to launch you into

space, you will take off. After take-off is the hard part: you have to fly the rocket out of the

atmosphere, into space and direct it toward the space station.

During

Once you have reached the space station you have to very carefully line up the rocket

with the port you are supposed to dock with. After docking, the airlock doors will open and you

will receive a very warm welcome by the crew members already on the space station. After you

have gotten use to the space station, you will get to spend time with the other astronauts, do

experiments and different jobs around the space station like maintenance, you will exercise, eat,

greet new astronauts that come to the station, learn how to use the space station’s restroom, and

figure out how to move around without accidentally touching delicate instruments. After staying

on the space station for at least two days your body will change: your mussels will lose mass,

your body will get skinnier, your head will get bigger, and you will become weaker because of

the effects of zero gravity.

After

After you fly, or rather fall, back to earth followed by a very rough landing, you will be

weak because you have not had to experience gravity for so long. In the meantime when

NASA’s doctors aren’t doing test on you, you can spend time with your family and friends. You

will also need rehabilitation to get you muscles working again so you can walk, jump, run, swim,

and do everything you could do before you left earth.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are many things to do and prepare for before, during, and

after staying on the ISS and doing them all becomes very tedious and exhausting, but once they

are all done, everything is easier. It is also very rare to get chosen by NASA to even be an

astronaut, and even rarer to be chosen to stay on the ISS (the odds of getting chosen by NASA to

go to the ISS are 0.17% or 1 to 600). To even have a chance to be chosen you have to have a

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biology, physical science, or math or have 1000 hours of

pilot-in-command time in a jet aircraft.
