ASSUMPTIONS:

 SS will be familiar with the concept of frequency and regularity

 At least some of the SS will have heard some of the adverbs of frequency but will not
be 100% accurate using them, and may have some mistaken notions about meaning,
usage and form

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS:

Think about possible problems with form, meaning and phonology, and how you
might help students with these problems.
 Often /’ɒfən/ is very likely to be produced inaccurately, for example /ɒftən/. Drilling
may help to rectify pronunciation difficulty.
 SS may understand/remember the correct word order (adverb of frequency usually
comes just before the verb it relates to). Model and practice correct word order.
 General level of class may be higher or lower than anticipated. If lower, grade language
accordingly and slow down. If higher, speed up and include final/extra activity.

Materials:
 Adverbs of frequency on paper slips
